He tried not to grin when Rose made her answer which was - in a weird and roundabout way - her agreeing to play engagement at the end of the summer. He thought he did a pretty good job of keeping a straight face while chewing his breakfast, but he kept his head down just in case. It wouldn't do for Rose to know he was relieved that she was coming. She'd probably bring it up at really inconvenient times to mess with him.

Of course, a moment later, Dardanius wished that he didn't have any food in his mouth as Rose said, “So how long have we been together then, Danny-dearest?". He inhaled a little sharply, choked on his last mouthful, and drained the juice that he had fortuitously poured himself. He recovered quickly.

“Yeah, we are going to have to work on pet names, because that is not acceptable,” he asserted. Though, as abrupt and probably-designed-to-mess-with-him as her question was, Rose did actually have a point: they would have to arrange some fictional details just in case anyone ever quizzed them on it. He assumed they would be left alone - a large draw of this plan was not being bothered by anyone - but it seemed sensible to be prepared. “Maybe now?” He suggested with a sigh because everything these days seemed so very surreal.

“I'm hoping to get by with saying nothing at all and dodging direct questions so that I don't have to deny anything later on,” he admitted his optimism, rubbing a hand on the back of his neck in an unconsciously activated gesture of discomfort. “But if it comes to it,” he hesitated, and his tone altered slightly to reflect Rose’s earlier seriousness, “you've obviously been hoping to marry me since the moment you met me five years ago, completely unable to resist my good looks and charming manners,” despite his best efforts, a hint of a smile was creeping it's way onto Danny’s face, “so now that I’m mature enough to think about my future, and my bride, you sprang to mind as an example of good breeding and doting affection.” His efforts to hide a smirk we're now completely in vain. If she decided to throw her cereal at him, he would have to concede that he might have been asking for it. Although if people were determined to mess with him, they had to expect he would retaliate by being as annoying as he chose.

“Robes it is!” Rose said definitively, giving her hot cereal a stir. By this point ‘hot’ might have been a little bit of a strong adjective for the congealing lumps in the bowl in front of her; the... more
