Kaye looked off to the side where Danny’s outstretched arm reached. She finished off her raspberry tartlet and pondered, briefly, before snatching a bowl of whatever the dish was as the elf walked away from the distracted Lyra. Kaye had no idea what the food was, but it was something Danny had thought about eating and now the elf was away from the fire, so she wanted to eat it. There seemed to be rice and tons of seasoning. And there was some kind of protein in it, too. Kaye definitely wasn’t hungry, but now she had this mystery dish that Danny didn’t; she was going to eat it.

She took a bite and paused. Okay, this was good. Sucks for you. Maybe the elf would come by again.

“That’s more than most people do,” Kaye pointed out, holding her hand over her mouth. She was totally rubbing in the fact that she had food he wanted, but she wasn’t a monster. She’d cover her mouth if there was food in it. She swallowed, shrugged. “Most people like you don’t care because it never affects them in a negative way.” She paused again. “I’m a little impressed by you, Pretty Boy.”

“Are you gonna sit down or just stand there?”

“Do you see any chairs?” Kaye raised an eyebrow, and then unconsciously smoothed down her bangs again. Her wig wasn’t black this time around. It was a darker brown, with feminine wave, a small braid around the crown of her head, and definitely softer. She hated it. Of all her wigs, it was the one that covered her eyebrows the most without getting in her eyes, though, so she’d just suffer through it. She thought about asking Holland for help, but she was still at the embarrassed stage of the new hair loss thing.

Kaye shifted her weight and took another bite of the mystery dish, making a happy sound. “So is this nonsense what they do every opening feast? Who decided that sitting on the floor was a good idea?” The Aquila grinned. “Whatever, I have a better question. What kind of things would you fix, besides the Head Boy and Girl thing?”
