Myfanwy Owen
Better Late than Never
Tue Jul 25, 2017 08:48

The Diner that looked like being inside a train was a nice touch, Myfanwy thought as she looked at the room for the first time. Arriving at the start of the third week of term instead of the first week hadn’t been her decision, but that’s how things had happened. She had already skipped four years of the school so Myfanwy didn’t expect that an extra two weeks would make all that much difference. Dad had brought her in early that morning, using the entrance from the bookshop. She told him to relax, she was going to be absolutely fine at school. It was a small school, just like the one she’d been to at home, except it was full of witches and wizards instead of Muggles. Nothing to it.

Myfanwy’s uniform robes were stored safely inside her luggage, which had been sent up to her new dormitory. She hadn’t wanted to get them creased or dirty on the trip from California, and she did have some Floo soot on her rainbow tie-dye t-shirt dress, so that had been the right decision. The black-haired, blue-eyed fifteen year old had been invited to eat breakfast in the Diner, and someone would show her to her commons when she was done. She was hoping for a roommate so they could talk about everything until they fell asleep and they would be best friends forever. Her old school friends had given her loads of friendship bracelets to remember them, so Myfanwy was wearing a couple on her wrist, but some were tied to her bags and all sorts.

Intending to make new friends super quickly, Myfanwy headed straight for one of the small tables, where a student who looked to be about her own age was already sitting. The new girl sat down in the seat opposite, and gave a big smile full of neat, white teeth. First impressions were important so she’d polished the rose gold (not real gold but they looked nice anyway) circular frames of her glasses to a proper shine, and her dark hair was tied in what Myfanwy liked to call a three-part-pony (where she tied back the front sections of her hair into an elastic quite high on her head, then added a bit more into a second elastic, and the rest into the third ponytail at the top of her neck). “Alright, what’s occurring,” she said brightly in strong Welsh brogue.

    • What if you're never late? - Rose Farnon, Wed Jul 26 05:07
Rose’s blonde hair was still damp from swimming when she came down to the Diner. She did her best to swim every morning - it was part of her Quidditch conditioning - but hadn’t been feeling... more
      • What, never never ever? - Myfanwy, Wed Jul 26 09:38
The girl replied in an English accent which was completely lovely because although it might have been nice to be the only foreign student at the school, Myfanwy hadn't really been expecting that... more
        • Well, maybe once - Rose, Thu Jul 27 05:31
So the new girl had come from California (was there a wizarding school there?) and before that Wales, specifically two towns with far too many consonants for Rose’s liking. To be fair, ‘Welsh town... more

“Oh how lovely, I've been on holiday to Devon,” Myfanwy trilled. “My Mam had an old friend who lives near Bere Ferres so we stayed in a campsite in Devon nearby.” It was adorable that this girl and... more

Everything about Pearl Street sounded amazing. Myfanwy had literally never been so excited about anything in her whole entire life, except maybe when she found out she was a witch, and then maybe... more

Myfanwy assumed they were now talking about a student named Holland (she could be wrong, she wasn't certain she was following this conversation all that well). Rose said, “They just aren’t a boy or a ... more

Out of nowhere, fake-weirdo hippie girl started asking questions about - Holland’s parts ? Rose was, unusually, stunned into silence. She had known Holland for five years and hadn’t once thought... more
