Sara wasn’t making nearly as many corrections to her packet as Dade had expected, and he was surprised. Last year she had certainly been towards the bottom of their class if not the bottom, at least in Spellwork. Rose had mentioned in passing to Dade that she had helped Sara at least once, which Dade had found weird and had never brought up again, much less to Sara. Not that he’d spent any significant amount of time talking to his yearmate. Not that he anticipated doing so in the future. Not that he was really enjoying it now.

“Oh,” he said, grabbing his packet and looking at the eleventh question. It was about the class of Reparo charms. “This bit?” Dade pointed at a sentence that was a little more messy than the rest of them. “It says ‘Although Reparo works as a general charm, it can be strengthened by using a verbal indicator of the object of the charm, usually in Latin or Greek.’” Dade pushed the packet back towards Sara. He was a little less annoyed than he usually was; Spellwork was one of his favorite subjects. Admittedly, Dade was a little bit more interested in hexes and jinxes than actual spellwork, but they were kind of in the same category of things. He also like Defense, although that was almost the opposite of hexes and jinxes.

Usually Dade did his homework with Remy, and they’d actually disagreed over the details of that particular answer. She thought that that particular class of charms could only be modified using Latin, not Greek. Since Dade couldn’t find the source he remembered that had said Greek was also an option, they had ended up putting down different answers for number eleven. Dade could have mentioned that to Sara, but he didn’t want to. He was pretty sure he was right, anyway.

If she was honest, Sara was amazed when Dade actually shared his homework with her. As far as she could remember, they didn't have too many previous interactions. Sara blinked a couple of times at... more
