Leo wrinkled his nose. Watching Myffi pull out that little tub of gloop hurt his eyes. He didn’t want to know what it would do to his taste buds. He turned his attention to his burger, thankful for his lack of moral conscience. He didn't know why Myffi was bothering to defend Bonilla. He’d never thought she was a huge fan, it was almost as though she was just trying irritate him. Leo held Bonilla personally responsible for his being held back and his only response to her pathetic defense of Bonilla was to bite into his burger more savagely.

“I’m super excited about Toby though. He seems so jolly!”

Leopold scoffed. “No one's that happy.” Leo didn’t trust people who were always upbeat. There was something fishy about someone who could step in a puddle and just laugh it off without letting out a stream of some foul language. They were a phony sort of person. The sort who’d smile to your face and talk crap about you behind your back. When he thought about it, Myffi struck Leo as someone who tried to be all phony. But she wasn’t very good at it.

“And like what’s with all this, ‘call me Toby’ stuff?” Leo hated it when adults tried to act all cool and like they were your friend or something. It reminded him of how his mom would always get them to call her ‘Abigail’. Leopold thought she just didn’t want anyone to know she was old enough to be a mom so when he got wise to that he stopped pandering to her. Unfortunately, he’d not been able to convince his younger siblings to join him. They really were dumb little things and Leo worried about them being stuck at home with only Jeb and mom. He ought to write to them more this year. It was important someone with some common sense informed their world view.

Leo had absolutely no idea who Miranda Bradbury was but if Myffi was excited about them he probably didn’t want to know. Probably some sort of pig activist trying to deprive people of the joy that was bacon. However, he had heard about AgriClub, with someone like Myffi at the helm it had been hard not to. Leo, of course hadn’t joined up. He wasn’t fussed about participating in free labour and Quidditch had been the only extracurricular he needed. This year though, he was going to need to fill his time with something else and Leo had no intention for that something else to be studying. Seeing an opportunity to have some fun, he smirked, “More crops? That’s cool. You know I’m going to have some free time to kill this year. Might be fun to do something practical.”

Leo adjusted his glasses self consciously. He had never actually tried contacts. His mom said that they were too expensive and he was too irresponsible for them, as if he couldn’t just magic them to him if he lost them? But sometimes there was just no point trying to reason with a crazy person like his mom. He didn’t feel like explaining this to Myffi though, so he just nodded. Mouth full of burger he offered weakly, “Yeah, the environment. Got to look after that. So now I get to be four eyes.”
