Leo looked over at Myffi’s dinner in concern. He’d been interested in AgriClub for the mucking around, getting your hands dirty aspect. And like maybe it would be nice to actually see some results from the work you’ve put in. Merlin knew, Leopold was in need of a win so bad he’d take a plant surviving long enough to be eaten as a success. But he had not anticipated actually having to eat the food himself. “Do all these meals have to be super vegan, or is it cool to bring a bit of fish along once in a while?” he asked trying not to sound too concerned. He was hoping that since he’d suggested fish and not something cute and furry, Myffi would be more accommodating. In his experience these tree hugging types were always more partial to something like a dog than, say a salmon.

“All the better to see you with.”

It was so cheesy, like something his little brother Eugene would say, and as much as he wanted to, Leo couldn’t stop the brief smile that escaped onto his lips. He appreciated Myffi trying to make him feel better about the whole glasses thing and all, but it’s not like she could really understand. Myffi suited hers, they really added to that whole ‘I’m desperately trying to be an individual’ thing she had going on. Leo wasn’t really trying for the same thing. He was more of a ‘can’t I just look like everyone else?’ sort of guy. So basically, glasses didn’t add much to what he was trying to achieve. He twitched his nose in discomfort but choose to take her pity driven compliment silently.

Leo knew some people who thought that just waking up to sunshine could put you in a good mood for the rest of the day. He didn’t much understand the hypothesis himself, living in sunny California had seemed to have the opposite effect on him. Truthfully, Leo had always enjoyed rain the most. There was something so satisfying about walking through the street as water slashed against your face, really made you feel justified in your brooding. “I am really looking forward to the occasional cold breeze. Buuuut, I think I’m going to cut down on Quidditch this year.”

It had not occurred to Leo, until that moment that maybe Myffi didn’t know about his whole embarrassing situation, and if she didn’t he sure as hell wasn’t going to tell her. The slower the news took to spread the better Leo would sleep at night. He had to remind himself, that she definitely didn’t know about his Quidditch ban, and to focus his glowering at the flames rather than her face. “Mostly, I’m looking forward to getting away from annoying family members,” the admission came out gruffy as he thought of his mom and Jeb. He’d basically spent the entire holiday as a shut in, with mom not letting him see any of his friends. Just because she’d seen them passing a can back and forth once or twice, they were the ‘bad influence’. It amused Leo to know the drinks had mostly come from Jeb’s cooler box. He would have asked Myffi about her summer but he already knew it would include a long story about some boring hippie stuff he didn’t have time for.

Just because Leo was grumpy all the time, it didn’t mean that other people couldn’t be happy all the time. Myffi could easily believe that Toby was, in fact, that happy. She could believe it more... more
