The Finer Diner
A different kind of meal...
Fri Feb 2, 2018 08:33

It was an ordinary lunchtime, except it wasn't.

It was ordinary because it looked normal at a glance, with all the food offerings one would expect to see. However, a closer look revealed much that was out of the ordinary.

On the tables were hundreds of small signs, sticking up from every dish. A bowl of apples was labelled as pesticide-free from Osbourne Organic Farms in California, while the assorted juice and coffee pots all declared themselves produced through ethical labour practices and the multigrain loaves were made from locally milled, GMO-free wheat.

All of the normal dairy options had been replaced with soy- and almond-based milk products. Eggs had been replaced and another sign detailed the substitutions used, such as applesauce in baked goods. Meat as well was gone entirely. Instead, one could choose from an assortment of tofus, beans, and other protein options.

The final changes had been made to the dining places. Each seat had in front of it a thick napkin made from plant fibres and a set of compostable bamboo cutlery. The placemats were also made from plant fibres, and featured the text ďHave a very vegan day!Ē along with a picture of an animal spared by this special meal.

Nope, it was not an ordinary lunchtime in the slightest. Hopefully RMIís population would not be too bothered.
