Drew
But fun!

Deep in thought, Drew took a cupcake from the house elf’s tray. Leon had said a lot of really intense stuff. Drew was not really up to dealing with that for a few reasons: 1) because it was the opening feast and he just wanted to eat good food, 2) because he didn’t even know Leon (it would be different if it was, like, Dade or even Huburt telling him stuff like this), 3) it was, like, weird that Leon was telling him all this, right? Drew had just met him like five minutes ago and now he was spilling all this personal feelings stuff, and 4) because being the counselor’s son didn’t actually make him any good at counseling.

Soon (please, soon?) the Head of House stuff would start and then Leon would be Aaron’s responsibility. Until then it was up to Drew, so the twelve-year-old took a bite of his cupcake and tried really hard to think about what Leon had said. If Drew was a scared first year—well for starters he wouldn’t be that scared, and even if he was he wouldn’t be all overshare-y—but he would want the student he confided in to nor be a jerk about it.

He hadn’t thought about not having belongings with him. Students’ families could send them things they forgot, unless they were too big to go by owl. Drew’s real home was just over in the staff quarters, so he could always just walk over there if he realized he’d left something in his other room. The biggest change about being an RMI student for Drew had been not having his own room. Drew had always had his own room, except for a little while when Josh had been living with them, but Drew had been too little to remember anything that happened back then. Huburt was not the roommate Drew would’ve chosen (if he had the option Drew probably would’ve picked Dade out of all the boys in Cetus) but he was a pretty good guy all things considered. After the fight with Connor, Drew and Huburt had started getting along a lot better

Drew didn’t wanna touch the worrying-about-people-being-forced-to-love-him bit. Right now Drew was not feeling a whole lot of love for Leon because this was a weird conversation he didn’t really want to be having. “I’m sorry you got teased,” he started, sincerely. “But if it was because of magic, then that’s not gonna be a problem here. Everyone is magic. And most people don’t know anyone when they get here. I have family at RMI so I did, but most people are on their own and just… make friends here. And a lot of people don’t know anything about magic either, because some people don’t have any magical relatives. So it’s okay if you don’t know anyone or anything yet. Just chill a little about it.”

There was a lot of stuff Leon had said about his family, but that seemed like waaaay too big of an issue for Drew to poke with a two-seater broomstick, so he decided not to say anything really about that, except for: “Also no one’s family is normal. Mine definitely isn’t.” Not because he had two dads but because of a lot of other reasons. Like how his mother was also his stepsister, and his cousins were actually his adoptive nieces, and his sister, who was really his half-sister, was also his… step… aunt or something (right? Because Dad was Jessie’s stepfather, which made Dad Drew’s step-grandfather, and Dad was Madeleine’s biological father, so that would make Madeleine stepsisters to Jessie and therefore Drew’s aunt).

Yeah. Not normal.

Leon turned slightly to Drew, “It’s just that… I don’t know… I think I’m in too deep or something. Like, you know how things work and have a normal magical family. Meanwhile, I just have an... more

      • I wouldn't call a padded room fun. - Leon, Fri Mar 9 02:48
Leon thought a moment, then he sighed, "yeah, I guess you are right about that." The first year moved into a more comfortable position and just stared at the older boy. He seemed to know everything,... more
