I'm glad someone is

She was finding it so difficult not to be overwhelmed. Her high-waisted pencil skirt restricted the movement of her legs, forcing her to take smaller steps than she would have liked as her matching cherry-red peep-toes with a low kitten heel click-clicked across the Diner floor. She was sure the crisp white of her bow-collared blouse only emphasized the redness of her cheeks, which had at first been flushed with indignation, but were now burning with mortification; she was crying in the Diner. Her immaculate make-up would remain in place - the irony that it was Holland who taught her that charm was not lost on her - but nothing would hide the tears that fell even as Claudia raised a perfectly manicured hand to wipe them away. Her dark-blonde hair was not providing any cover, either, as she’d tied back the front sections in a half-ponytail, so all Claudia could do was lower her gaze to her feet and keep walking to put as much space between herself at the rest of the student body.

Unfortunately her plan did not come to fruition, as another student found it appropriate to catch up with her and ask if she was okay. That was… unexpected. Nobody paid much attention to Claudia recently. She’d argued with Marley, again, but this time neither of them were speaking to each other. Her relationship with Connor had suffered after his altercation with Drew last term, and it was yet to return to a state Claudia would be comfortable calling a friendship. Darlene was an amicable companion, but the younger girl was not in any of Claudia’s classes, and sometimes it was tiresome to only be with a second year. She had talked to Kaye a little, but the sixth year seemed to be spending a lot of time with Ruben, and Claudia had no desire whatsoever to do that. She hadn’t been spending much time with Holland recently, and now (she choked back a sob) Claudia realized the abominable reason for their unavailability.

She indulged in a fleeting sideways look at the student who had spoken. Caleb Taylor was a recent transfer into the year above, who was in three of Claudia’s classes so she had quickly learned his name and become accustomed to his presence, but she knew very little else about him. Ordinarily she would not have given him a second glance, but she was desperately lacking in companionship, and he had come over to her; she couldn’t deny the attention was consoling. However it was highly presumptuous of him to assume she would want to make an acquaintance while she was so obviously upset, and although she didn’t stop walking until she was safely out of the Diner, she refrained from glaring at him, and didn’t tell him to leave her alone, which she thought demonstrated exceptional restraint on her part. “I’m fine,” Claudia lied, although her insincerity was so obvious she may as well have said nothing.

It wasn’t until she was beyond the Diner that the fourth year stopped. She pressed her back against the wall and leaned against it, savoring its solidity as she took a steadying deep breath and attempted once again to wipe her cheeks dry. What was Dardanius thinking? This most by far the most ridiculous thing he had ever done, and he had a broad and varied history of idiocies for comparison.

  • I’m here for Claudia - Caleb Taylor , Mon Feb 12 17:25
RMI was interesting. Caleb couldn’t really place his finger on specific things that he found so interesting – and weird, but good weird -, but the new fifth-year was thoroughly enjoying his time at... more

Caleb didn't receive a response right away but instead Claudia continued to walk presumably out of the sight of everyone in the Finer Diner. He didn't blame her, to be honest. She was crying in the... more

              • Be my guest - Claudia, Wed Feb 21 15:39
There weren’t many assessments of RMI that Caleb could have made at that moment to endear himself to Claudia, but apparently a way to distance her was to claim it was ‘great’. There was, in Claudia’s ... more
                • Hank you for the opportunity! - Caleb , Mon Feb 26 18:08
He made her smile! The blonde was smug about achieving that, especially after she had been crying. Her smile meant that he was doing a good job at becoming a distraction, and his heart couldn't help... more

It would be an accurate assessment that Claudia found people laughing at her most unsettling. However as Caleb proceeded to chuckle at the answer she provided, the fourth year decided that having... more

“Thats easy,” Caleb declared with a big grin, “Quidditch.” Caleb didn't hesitate to give an answer to Claudia’s inquiry. Since he had been a small boy he had focused his energy on mastering the noble ... more
