It’s finally happening

The Finer Diner was almost empty, populated only by those few students who were present for the very first moment dinner was served. Danny was not usually here when the room was thus deserted, preferring to consume his meals in the company of his friends, at a later hour. He was not here to eat, however, but to have a conversation that was long overdue, to the detriment of many.

He soon located his sister, seated alone on a small table near the wall - the same table, in fact, at which she had been seated when Danny had last sought her here, in October - her dark blonde hair in some sort of braid or other, with no dramatic makeup (the likes of which she had taken to wearing recently), and her uniform robes completely concealing whatever else she was wearing beneath them. She perfectly represented the neat, studious young teenager that Danny had, until recently, imagined Claudia to be. Similarly, while he was not wearing his school robes, the dove grey slacks and bright fuchsia shirt Danny wore were a perfect representation of his generally neat appearance, with his individual preference for ostentatious hues; he was broadly rule abiding, providing he could have fun in the process.

Right now, however, was not about having fun, but was certainly related to Danny’s reluctance to abide by certain rules. Or, as he preferred to think of it, his creative interpretation of adherence. He walked purposefully to Claudia’s table. She wasn’t done eating yet, but the moment she saw Danny approaching she lowered her fork anyway, and stood to leave.

Dardanius graced her with a look that conveyed only a fraction of his rancor, but was still the most malevolent expression he had ever bestowed upon Claudia. If she thought she could continue to avoid him after what she’d done to Holland, she was grossly mistaken. “Sit down.” His words were not harshly spoken but commanded absolute authority. It was apparent to both of them that if Claudia did not comply with this instruction of her own volition, Dardanius would force her to do so. She sat.

Danny took the seat opposite Claudia. “You owe Holland an apology,” he said, without preamble. Then, to be perfectly clear, he stipulated, “and not because I, or somebody else has told you to, but because you actually have remorse for what you did to them.”

              • They can join now, if they want to - Danny, Sat Apr 14 14:32
“Somewhere around Marissa.” Danny couldn’t completely conceal his smirk. Well if his relationships were the sole cause for her mistrust of him, that was equal parts good and bad news. He could... more
