Vivica Dixon
My name’s Vivica, and I’m a Cetus
Fri Jul 6, 2018 15:11

Vivica felt that time had flown by so quickly between the new student orientation event at RMI and the start of term. She had filled her time learning as much as she could about the wizarding world…
Can I think that? Is that the politically correct? Surely it’s the magical world, and not the wizarding world? Wizarding world would mean it’s male dominated. It seems there were a lot of male teachers at orientation but Mum didn’t get the impression that’s the case. The Wizarding world, not the male teachers. Mum said RMI was very welcoming. She even commented to Dad about how they deal with gender and stuff.
Vivica had also purchased a plethora of items from a number of shops that confused both her and her parents. What do i need a rat spleen for anyway?

The morning had started fairly pleasantly. A large breakfast and some family time, with the parent mandated ‘coping strategies’ (something which Vivica had practiced so many times it was now second nature). Without a doubt, Vivica’s parents were more concerned about it, all of it, than she was. She was just, in a word, excited. She was a witch… or at least, she was going to be a witch. Before she left her parents in the muggle world, That’s going to take some getting used to, Vivica endured what could possibly be the longest family hug in the history of family hugs. She felt it could have only been outdone by the extended family gathering hug she received at Uncle T’s house, before they left the UK for America earlier that year. That hug saw Vivica at the epicentre of a circular family hug that included her mum and dad, her gran, her grandad, her four aunts (and three of their husbands), Uncle T, seven first cousins, two second cousins and one confused dog. At the end of it, Gran commented on Uncle T’s ’silly misgivings’ on why he thought he needed a bigger house.
Hugs and lectures aside, Vivica knew she would miss her parents but was eagerly awaiting the next adventure.

Vivica didn’t see her disability as a traditional disability, if there could be such a thing. She didn’t have a wheelchair, or medication (anymore). She had no visible malformations or imperfections that may cause an inquisitive mind to pry. It only made its presence noticeable when it became too much for her to handle. Even when it did become too much for her, Vivica didn’t care for what others thought or said. Without it, she wouldn’t have grown into the strong, confident and caring girl she was today.

I know, we’re here. I know, I’m excited too! In the blink of an eye she’d been whisked off from where she once was to where she was now and it was noisy. The room was bustling with arriving students and whilst they were only as loud as excited children can be, in Vivica’s mind it was noisy. It didn’t take long for Vivica to compose herself following her arrival and she soon found herself being welcomed into her new family that would be RMI. She stared in awe as her dreamcatcher turn a bluey silver. Wow! Still not over that, possibly the smallest of magical happenings she was sure she would witness that evening, Vivica followed the directions she was given and proceeded toward the Cetus fire. Taking a slow breath in, Shh. It’s ok, you can do this. They seem just as nervous as you, just..., and an even slower breath out, Vivica slowly made her way toward the Cetus fire. About halfway there, mid-step, she let out an almost silent “shhh” and continued to the Cetus fire.

Vivica sat next to the Cetus bonfire to a roar of cheering from all the people around the bonfires. She eagerly grinned at the students around her and quietly, attentively, listened to the announcements as they continued. It was almost like it was a dream. A wonderful, nagging, dream. The sound of a loud crack filled Vivica’s ears and for a second, she felt silence. Clarity. Nothing. Then as the little people ”ooh the house elves with the food… have lasagna…” house elves bought food, the excitement of the room caught back up with her. Vivica glanced around the room, carefully observing the older students and what to do. As her eye caught a house elf walking past with a lovely smelling dish, Vivica caught the gaze of the student next to her. “Isn’t this awesome?!”
