Scooby Dooby Doo, Where are you?

Keith prevented Jesse from chasing after the chilli before the dark haired boy had even lifted his buttocks from the floor. His roommate said he had eaten too much of the dish one time, and had been put off it. Jesse expected there was more to that story, because he did not believe that just eating too much of something could create a dislike for it (for example, he ate way too much candy every Halloween, and this had not decreased his love for anything sweet, not even a tiny bit. He still continued to over indulge every Halloween in the same way, with the same unfortunate side effects of intense discomfort throughout his digestive system) however Keith mentioned that he had been camping, which was something to which Jesse could relate; his family often went camping because it was essentially the least expensive form of vacation that there was, aside from maybe going to stay with relatives (but all four of Jesse’s grandparents were Muggles, so that option came with many more considerations for the Kellers).

“Did you have a good summer?” Keith asked just as Jesse had filled his mouth with food. All he could do was nod, which seemed to be an acceptable response for the time being, because Keith then went on to briefly outline the synopsis of his own summer. Jesse didn’t know whether spending time with his Dad was significant to Keith - Jesse’s own parents were married, maybe not happily, but contentedly, and his Mom was around a lot more than his Dad, who had a proper, career type job managing a small chain of restaurants, but they still saw his Dad plenty - but he did know that going to Quidditch games would be a fantastic experience. Jesse had never been to a single game, not including the House matches played at RMI, and knowing that Keith had been to ‘a bunch’ filled him with longing.

“I would love to go to a Quidditch game,” he said, his usual matter-of-fact tone tinged with melancholy. “My summer was nowhere near that fun,” Jesse assumed. “We visited my grandparents and I played with our dog, Bruno, and sometimes we went out for ice cream, and that was nice.” They didn’t have any real vacations this year because his mother was waitressing again and couldn’t take time off. The money they saved by not needing to feed Jesse most of the year was spent on Bruno’s food, and Felix’s music lessons, and Felix’s dance classes, and Felix’s self defense clubs, and Felix’s gymnastics tuition.

“I had to share my room with my brother, Felix,” Jesse added, “except he says it’s his room now, because I don’t live there most of the year.” That was a reasonable argument, Jesse conceded, but he expected Felix had discounted that the room had been Jesse’s before Felix had even been born. However he did not argue with his brother unless it was about something important, because their disagreements almost always ended up with Jesse being hit. “I much prefer you as a roommate,” Jesse admitted conversationally. “Felix moves my things and hits me sometimes and calls me fat, and you don’t do any of those things.”
