Ah, so she did come from magic. That was neat. Kaye sometimes wondered what that would be like. She really enjoyed having both Muggle and magical influences in her life, though. She was supposed to be thinking about college now, and when she took a moment to indulge in that kind of responsible planning, she liked the idea of doing something with magic and Muggle technologies. Magical Sciences were the closest thing she had to technomany stuff at Rocky Mountain International. Since she was pretty sure she wanted to do something like that - create magical apps or find a way to hack technology using magic without making the Muggle thing freak out - she needed to find some decent places that had technomancy as an option. She planned to write Holland once the school year had truly gotten underway. It could be fun to go to the same school as her friend.

Or maybe she wouldn’t go to school. She could take a year off and travel the world. Maybe Ruben would even go with her. She could compromise nice hotels sometimes for the woods. She’d just need to find a way to keep her lupus and stuff under control without, like, air conditioning and all of that.

Ugh, what boring thoughts. Back to the interesting first year.

She didn’t push for information about this mysterious school in Europe. If the kid wanted to tell her about it, she wouldn’t be so vague. Or maybe under all the clothes and profanity she was secretly like Heather and was unclear specifically for more attention. Man, she hoped not. What an annoying thing that would be.

“Yeah, it’s Spellwork here,” she answered, “Professor McKindy teaches it. He’s, like, one of the least boring professors here. If you go into animagus stuff, he teaches that too.”

Kaye sometimes thought about doing animagus stuff, but that seemed to be a little weird. She had no idea what her form would be, but she knew that it probably wouldn’t have any hair. This wouldn’t be a problem if she ended up being a reptile or whatever, but if she were a mammal? Only some animals looked decent when without furr. A naked mole rat was okay, and a sphynx cat was absolutely majestic. Everything else? Well, she imagined the sight of a featherless parrot was a little terrifying. She could hide her lack of hair with makeup and wigs with clothes. It wasn’t that easy if you were an animal, and she didn’t want to waste her time learning a skill she may never use.

Gigi did get a laugh out of her when asking about Other Activities. “I would not be here if there were only classes to pass the time. There’s tons of stuff. Clubs, secret passageways, parties, mild arson,” she listed, “light stabbings. It’s never boring here. Last year the magic kept breaking, might still be, not sure. You’ll find stuff to do.”

Kaye asked about Gigi’s prior interactions with house elves. The younger girl deliberated answering while she scooped up a mouthful of her rice salad with fruit in thing. It was pretty good -... more

“Ha, yes,” Georgina said through her food, “I’m going to be an animagus. Even if I’m something ridiculous.” She looked Kaye right in the eye as she said, “My Dad is a duck-billed platypus.” If that... more
