Connor
Not always true

Ugh it seemed like Nolan was fixated on Claudia, and that made Connor very uncomfortable. Obviously his friendship with Claudia was no longer exclusive - and it was Connor’s own fault - but he still held a sense of protection around their friendship, particularly when it came to things like other boys. He knew Claudia was a strong person, she had to be in order to endure such terrible things as her brother’s betrayal of their family values and Dade’s random attack, but she was also delicate and easily affected by some things. For all that Nolan was a good friend, Connor did not believe that he would be capable of providing the amount of care that was necessary when it came to Claudia.

“I don’t spend a particular amount of time with girls aside from Claudia,” Connor said mildly, wondering the best way to give Nolan the signal to back off from the other fifth-year. There weren’t very many purebloods near Connor’s age, and he didn’t really want to spend time with some second-year. Sure, age wasn’t typically a consideration for betrothals (within reason, obviously), but that didn’t mean that the Cetus wanted to spend time with someone that much younger than him. Connor knew he was mature for his age and he didn’t need to waste his time with some kid when he would be of age in less than two years. That thought sent chills up his spine. He couldn’t wait to be old enough to Apparate. Not for any particular reason, but it seemed like an important milestone and he knew he would feel so much older once he could.

Of course, that pretty much left him with Kateri Lemont (sixth year, but Canadian and a gossip) and Magdalena Adler (fourth year, German). However, Connor knew that Claudia was becoming a sort of mentor or older sister figure for Magdalena, and it seemed rude to develop an interest in someone who had that relationship with his best friend. Invasive, even. Of course, Connor prided himself most on his manners, so that was out of the question even if there was interest. Which he was pretty sure there wasn’t. “I find Kateri’s penchant to gossip to be unfortunate, and I couldn’t possibly pursue any sort of arrangement with someone like Magdalena, who my closest friend has taken under her wing.”

Was it rude to refer to Claudia as his closest friend to Nolan, who probably took the title of next closest friend, even if it was practically by default? Connor felt momentarily anxious before reassuring himself that it probably was not entirely socially unacceptable. Particularly since the event with Dade, Connor had done his best to make sure Claudia had felt as comfortable as possible, even in situations where they were otherwise surrounded by friends. It was the general consensus among their little group (Connor hoped, anyway) that Dade was clearly mentally deranged and that Claudia had been entirely innocent in the encounter between the two of them. Encounter was overstating, in Connor’s opinion, given that Dade’s attack was entirely unprompted.

That did still leave Claudia in the running, but Connor did hope that Nolan would overlook that particular piece of information. The one-legged boy was typically laid back so Connor thought he had a chance. It wasn’t that he was completely enamoured with Claudia, it was just that they were quite close as friends and they were getting to the age where that might be seen as inappropriate. Connor planned to do his best to act in a way that would stay any accusations of impropriety, but he did know that when a young man and a young woman were close, that possibility always lingered.

“ There aren’t very many suitable options here, ” Connor asserted. Seemed a mighty strange thing to say. Besides Alena there was Claudia, and Darlene Knight (okay, so Nolan did know one prominent... more

Connor had a point: their group of mutual friends (Nolan considered this to include himself, Connor, Claudia, and Caleb) was small, and the guy to girl ratio was three to one. Unlike Nolan—who was... more

It seemed like Nolan wasn’t too preoccupied by Kateri’s gossiping, which was fair because Connor wasn’t either. Given how quickly the news of his fight with Andrew had spread, he just had a healthy... more
