Satveer heard the words “Super yes!” and he felt his dread dissipate and his relief light up like a firework. He was overflowing of excitement. A super(yes) happy smile happened across his face and he sat up likea puppy who’d been given a tread. Excitedly. Proud. ‘I’m going on A DATE with Katherine! Yes!’

Of the many thoughts that rushed that ran through Satveer’s head, the thought of Dilbaagh was possibly the most surprising. Dilbaagh and Satveer had shared a compartment of the campervan and the last two weeks of their road trip. They had always been close, Bal was too much of a big brother for Satveer to handle on the trip. During their time together, Dil had witnessed Satveer obsessing over his gift to Kit. She was nice and showed an interest, but she was also crafty with it. Only once the picture was nearly finished, did she really quiz him on it. As close as Dil and Satveer were, it still came as a surprise to him when she had managed to extract just who the intended recipient of the drawing was. Prepared for the worse (Balbir find out and either ripping it up, or ripping into him), Satveer had been taken aback as she was nothing but encouraging. Dil had always been an awesome big-big sister. She was kind, caring, and most of all nothing like Balbir. In their shared secret, Satveer felt loved. Whilst it was a surprise, it wasn’t a shock that Satveer was excited to tell Dil it had gone better than he hoped. To tell her that her little brother had a date!

Kit’s suggestion of being first date buddies was perfect. She would be his first date, and he would be hers. He’d have no one to be compared against. He could set the bar. He could be THE first date that defined all her other dates for her…. Although that would mean their forthcoming relationship wouldn’t last and there would be others for both of them. Satveer hadn’t really set any expectations regarding a relationship goals. Not wanting to spiral, Satveer was sure that first date buddies was just fine awesome. Katherine’s further probing about how many dates Satveer had been on previously did however lead him to question, ‘is this the magic number Balbir was talking about?’

Satveer smiled and in a soft, reassured voice, he affirmed “I’d love to be first date buddies!” However, Satveer had NO IDEA what they should do on their first date at Pearl Street. He’d only visited it once before and that was with his family. It wasn’t like he could scope it out for first date possibilities and form itineraries in the shadow of his father. Having spent enough time with muggles around the world, it seemed that the mall had the usual mall based facilities. Food stands, restaurants, a cinema. It also had a number of magical shops, but nothing first date worthy. At least not at first glance. Satveer however wanted to make it special. Kit was lovely and she deserved something memorable. For once, Satveer found himself quoting Bal in a good way. ‘You never forget your first time!’

In an effort to avoid prescribing a terrible first date, Satveer came clean, “I don’t know yet. But I hope to see your lovely smile”.

A passing house-elf caught his eye, and Satveer grabbed two sodas. Getting settled Satveer moved a little closer to Katherine, and with both a happy sparkle in his eye and a smile on his face, he offered her a drink.

Apparently Satveer wasn’t good at ‘three-dimensional creativity’ which was totally Kit’s jam, but he wanted her to teach him! That was just the best, Kit loved it when people were interested in the... more
