You’re quite the poet

Yup, coming out for the first time to someone he always argued with was totally worth it for the look on Gigi’s face. She was just staring, not even cracking back with a smart-mouthed comment. Had he broken her? It would be kind of hilarious if he’d broken her with this. Georgina Philpott confirmed for never having met a queer person. Or at least, never one that she knew about. What a weird, boring life she had.

Never mind, she wasn’t broken, she’d just needed a minute to come up with her comment. It still didn’t wipe the smirk off Elliot’s face. First of all, he’d just learned something cool about himself, so he was sitting pretty high. Second of all, the lack of action had everything to do with the fact that he was eleven and nothing to do with the fact that he was a nerd. He was a nerd, but also he’d met his parents. Nerds could pull. Eleven-year-olds couldn’t. That was just a fact.

There weren’t any rules about when they were allowed to start dating in his family. Well, Dad said Ari wasn’t allowed to date until she was thirty, but Elliot wouldn’t be surprised if Ari had some first-grade boyfriends lining up to do her bidding already. Elliot figured he would start dating—or doing stuff with people with no strings attached, whichever worked better—when he found someone who he wanted to do that stuff with who wanted to do that stuff with him too. So far that hadn’t happened yet so the whole thing was kind of irrelevant. (See also: eleven.) But that didn’t mean he didn’t know who he liked…

…because third of all, had Gigi never had a crush on someone before? You had to know that you were attracted to someone before you got experience with them. What kind of ridiculous backwards life was she living? Elliot scoffed. “Okay, genius, how do you do it, then? Go around having sexual experiences with people before you know whether or not you’re into them?”

Confidently ignoring her jab about dating himself, Elliot slurped a single long spaghetti noodle off his plate. Mmmmm, pasta.
