Well thankfully I'm not French

The girl seemed to take what he said well, which Dade was relieved by. He had figured that admitting to wanting to do mean things to your roommates was probably not a good thing, but she seemed to be okay with it. Lucky her, she had a room alone, too. Dade had a room alone at home, so sharing with two other boys here was an awful experience, probably regardless of the other boys themselves. When he was a baby he’d shared a room with Connor, but when they were both past the diapers stage they got their own rooms. Dade didn’t even remember not having his own space.

The Cetus was a pretty private person, so sharing a dorm bothered him more than most people. How was he supposed to do anything with two people over his shoulder all the time?

“Dade,” he responded to Remington’s introduction of herself. Remington was a name that seemed like it would be a nice name for a pureblood boy, not this strange, dark-skinned girl. Although Dade supposed he didn’t know for sure if she was a pureblood or not; he was just making the assumption because she sure didn’t look like any purebloods he knew. His father had kept Dade and his siblings isolated though; they rarely spent time with other purebloods. Or other people, actually. Rose made it a point to go down to the local Muggle village every week or so - it was where she got Sammy - but Dade had only gone once or twice because their father really didn’t like it and Dade didn’t want to make his father more angry than he already did, especially because it usually made Rose start yelling.

Remington had found a book called Hellacious Hexes, which looked like it might have something in it. She was looking at the inside of the book, where Dade thought the table of contents probably was.

”So why jelly teeth?”

With a one-shoulder shrug, Dade moved to look over the girl’s shoulder. “They probably can’t talk if their teeth are jelly, right?” He squinted his eyes and looked at the table of contents. “Look, there’s one called the jelly-legs jinx,” he said. “That might work.”

  • Her brown eyes were back to skimming over the shelves when the boy gave her a very honest answer. “I’m looking for a book on curses or jinxes or something. I want to turn my roommates’ teeth into... more

Dade seemed like a much more normal name than Remington. The first year didn’t mind her name too much. Sometimes she felt it was perfect for her; sometimes, it felt like it was too much. She rarely... more

          • I have nothing against the French. - Remington, Sun Jan 29 10:27
Remington held back another snicker, still stuck on the silly incantation. From what she could tell, Dade didn’t want to hurt him roommates. He wanted to intimidate them. It was like how cats would... more
