Let's try to tone it down

Of course her sudden library companion was DJ.

Every time something like this happened, Remington managed to have it happen around people who could make it awkward. If this happened around Drew, for example, it wouldn’t be that big of a deal. He knew enough about her dad and what he did for a living to immediately understand what this was. Even if she was sitting and reading a questionable book, it wouldn’t be as awful as it was when Kit found her in the theater. Kit had no idea what anything was but always had lots of questions and opinions. It made most situations more difficult than they had to be.

Thankfully, DJ wasn’t a Kit, and this made her life a little easier. Instead of doing anything over the top, her fellow Draco laughed and shared that his family was also the same flavor of ridiculous. More, even! She let out a breath she didn’t know she was holding. Embarrassing herself already around DJ wasn’t something she wanted to do. Give it time, she was sure, and she’d nerd out too hard about a paper or whatever. They’d cross that path when they got there. The day at least wasn’t today!

As he told her what his family did, Remington gasped and covered her grin with her hands, clearly entertained by that. It certainly sounded like something that could happen in her future. Her dad was all about the safety thing. On top of selling certain products to soccer moms at anti-tupperware parties, he was often hired by schools to do their sex education units of health class. There was an abundance of Muggle contraceptives in her house, and she knew it would find its way to her eventually.

The Draco wasn’t interested in pursuing those kinds of activities herself yet. She’d never even been kissed. Outside of feeling warm and fuzzy about talented performers she felt emotionally connected to, like Bruno Mars, she wasn’t sure she’d ever had a crush on another person. She’d tried to create that kind of connection by asking Malachi on a date but - well, everyone knew that that hadn’t gone well.

Remington pushed the requested cookies towards her newest friend. The snickerdoodles were inside a plastic container that was charmed to keep the baked treats at that perfect warm temperature without baking them any further. She could tell they were from her abuela that way. Her Muggle grandmother didn’t have a clue that these magical things existed.

“My dad teaches sex education and has been trying to get RMI to bring him in to teach a unit. He has opinions about how the school handles it. He’s been sending these pamphlets to Mr. Tennant and maybe the medic. I think they asked him to please stop so he sent them to me to give to them instead.” She shrugged with a fond smile. “He means well. Just gets really passionate about things he cares about, like making sure kids like us have all the information they need to make their decisions.” Remington tucked the pamphlet back inside of the small box and redirected that smile at DJ, instead. “It sounds like my dad and your uncle would get along.”
