One of the easiest ways to get Remington Burnham’s face to light up was offer her a book. Bonus points were awarded for it being something she genuinely wanted to read. The Draco wanted to read most books, of course, but some books just excited her. This one on magical military affairs in Muggle conflicts sounded perfect. She smiled brightly at DJ and nodded with enough enthusiasm to make her curls bounce. “I would love to borrow that, thank you!”

She shook her head when asked about the fashion line thing. “Nah, my parents have their own passions. I don’t think it’s something they’d do. Plus, my dad really likes making them just for me. Says they’re one of a kind like his totally unique daughter.” She shrugged a little. “I know how to make them, too. So if I need to, I could sell them. I like making them as gifts, though. I made one for Drew’s little sister and she loved it.”

He didn’t take the bait when she tried to switch subjects, which was kind of fair. It was a lame attempt to do so. Anyone could have seen through the ruse. She couldn’t exactly pinpoint why she didn’t want to talk about this. It made her uncomfortable, talking about dating and attraction and stuff, since it was something she didn’t understand. Everyone else around her seemed to get it, which didn’t feel particularly fair. She just wanted to do some more research before engaging in this conversation!

"What about you Remy? Got a boyfriend? Some boy at home pining after the pretty girl with the bows in hair?"

This was flirting. It absolutely had to be flirting. She glanced up from her essay outline and caught DJ’s gaze, making her insides all twisty again. She didn’t know what to make of all this. Better to be honest than not, though. If people at this school were just honest all the time - if Malachi had said he wasn’t interested or Dakota had just explained what was going on when it all started - things would be much simpler. “No. I don’t have a boyfriend. I - um, I haven’t ever had someone like that.”
