It was becoming quite clear that Remington didn’t know what to do with flirting, which was a little weird. If she looked at it from a different angle, flirting was kind of like debating. You took a stance and exchanged back and forth, trying to get a leg up on the other person. Remington was good at debates; she even enjoyed them. Malachi’s ability to keep up with her when debating was part of what led her to ask him out. That clearly had been the wrong call, but she never liked him that much anyway.

She couldn’t remember a time when someone flirted with her. She’d finally figured out that this is what was happening; enough novels had crossed Remington’s path by now for her to catch the beats. Part of her felt like this was stupid. Why was he flirting with her? He’d met other people at Rocky Mountain International, right? But a part of her - one that felt really weird to notice and acknowledge - liked the attention, even if she didn’t know how to respond.

When she admitted her difficulty with this, that she spent more time with books than trying to flirt, he actually laughed at her! She would’ve felt embarrassed with anyone else, but something about DJ made this feel safe. He was like Drew that way. For some reason, the two boys made nearly everyone instantly at ease.

“To get people interested, you have to actually seek people out. Books and classwork and great I love them as much as you do probably, but you don’t live life in a book.”

“There’s no way you love them as much as I do,” Remington also laughed and closed her own books, accepting that this day in the library would be spent talking to her new friend instead of finishing work. “I’ve always been able to make friends! And, I dunno, I never even thought about dating and all of that until everyone around me did. Even Dade has a girlfriend.”

When asked about clubs, Remington nodded. “I’m not in a ton of clubs because I know my classwork is gonna get intense over the next few years with animagus and the Healing internship. I wanted to get a job on Pearl Street, but I don’t think the bookstore has any positions available.” Da-kota worked there now, and Remington got the feeling she wouldn’t be welcome, even with how Not Terrible their interactions seemed to be lately. “I work on the newspaper with Drew. And whenever the Drama Club needs help with management or set design or something, I’ll help.” Without realizing it, the Draco kept talking. “Sometimes I practice different spells with friends, which isn’t an official club but takes up the same amount of time.”
