Hunter had never had a particularly great sense of direction, but some time ago had been forced to conclude he had either gone completely and utterly insane, or the internal passageways of RMI didn’t obey the laws of space as he understood them. Or both. Both sounded pretty likely by this point. Because he would have thought that, having come to this conclusion, he could no longer be duped by whatever connivances the passages might contrive for him. He would simply expect it not to make sense, and therefore be unable to be surprised.

He must have gotten cocky. Thinking that embracing the madness would allow him to navigate it was clearly a mistake. He had been so sure that he was going to come out of the secret passages at the climbing wall. He would have bet money on it. He would have bet extreme personal humiliation on it. He would have bet a box of fizzing whizzbees on it, and they had become the first year’s most very favorite candy and he for some reason found them disturbingly difficult to share. But this was most assuredly not the climbing wall. This was perhaps the most not-the-climbing-wall of all of the places.

Hunter didn't have a problem with the library or anything, and in fact enjoyed reading a great deal. Having such easy access to so large a library was actually something he was really excited about. There just always seemed to be someplace else to explore. But here he was, so he figured it was past time to look around. He walked down the aisle of shelves, letting his eyes glance over titles on the spine, pausing occasionally if one jumped out at him. Not literally though, he hadn’t had a book literally jump at him yet, though he’d heard stories. He turned the corner and continued lazily, just enjoying the atmosphere and letting his finger trail along the spines as he walked.

“Um, hi, I’m not using the chair, if that’s what you wanted. Er, or did you need to get a book or something?”

Hunter nearly fell over. He had totally failed to notice the dude sitting there. Even though it was a little dark in this part of the library and he was sitting a little out of sight between the chair and the shelf, Hunter mentally kicked himself for failing to literally see the people around him again.

“No, no, I… I was just browsing…” Hunter stammered, hopping he hadn’t disturbed the older student too much, gesturing at the bookshelf behind him. He would have turned his attention back to the books, but just then he noticed the paper in the boy’s lap rustle. He stammered a little more, but when the paper rustled again and shifted visibly he couldn’t help but think of the stories Roger had told him about books that would bite you if you weren’t careful.

“Um, I don’t mean to alarm you…” Hunter whispered to the older boy, “but I think your homework is… alive.”

Russell had managed to make it out of his Potions lab relatively unscathed. ‘Relatively’ in this case meant that his eyebrows were intact. This was a substantial improvement to some of their earlier... more

The older boy stared at Hunter. With the sunglasses on, that was super effective. ”Yes. It's... hungry. Hunter’s eyes went wide. That was somehow exactly what he had expected, but that didn't make it ... more

”Actually, I was feeding Jaws.” The boy moved a paper and there was a little black mouse eating a nut or something with a super cute twitchy nose thing that mice did going on. A light clicked on in... more
              • It's... interesting. - Russell, Sat Mar 18 16:14
It would definitely be awful if Jaws got eaten. The boy seemed excessively concerned about grades, though, which Russell was confused by. Yeah, there was a possibility that if Jaws got eaten, he... more
