Dade Farnon
Just looking for a book
Mon Jan 16, 2017 05:54

A month into the school year and Dade Farnon had accepted that he had been Sorted into Cetus. He hadn’t accepted actually being a Cetus - he was sure there had been some mistake, somewhere, but apparently the people running the school were disinclined to fix it, or something - but he had been Sorted into Cetus and there was nothing he could do about it. Dade hated it when there was nothing he could do about something. It made him feel angry, like hitting something. LIke his roommates, Alistair and Thomas. They had given him no real reason to dislike them, but he did anyway. Also Alistair’s accent was annoying. He spoke too slowly, too.

It was a very grumpy first-year that made his way to the library that Saturday, finding a corner to curl up in and looking for books that might make him feel better. They weren’t taught hexes or curses or jinxes in class (which he thought was a shame), but there might be some library books that would teach him how to make his roommates’ teeth turn to jelly or something like that. He didn’t want to do it for the prank, like Rose might, but rather because if their teeth were jelly maybe they would be less annoying. They probably wouldn’t be able to talk, anyway. Right?

Dade’s hair was getting long, and he pushed his black bangs out of the hazel eyes he shared with both his siblings as he scanned the shelves for something useful. They had to be here, right? Somewhere?

The Cetus turned a corner, planning to scan the books on the other side of the shelves, only to find that there was a person in his way.

“You’re in my way,” Dade informed them, glaring sullenly.

Dade seemed like a much more normal name than Remington. The first year didn’t mind her name too much. Sometimes she felt it was perfect for her; sometimes, it felt like it was too much. She rarely... more

Remington held back another snicker, still stuck on the silly incantation. From what she could tell, Dade didn’t want to hurt him roommates. He wanted to intimidate them. It was like how cats would... more
