Despite living in both the Muggle and magical world her whole life, Remington Burnham had never had access to a magical library before. There was so much to explore. She’d been at Rocky Mountain International for about a month now, but she’d barely made a dent in all of the things she wanted to read from the library. Most of her time, before RMI, was spent reading children’s literature with her mom and talking about the different ways Muggles wrote about magic.

Having actual books about actual magic at her actual fingertips was a whole new world.

Her goal was to try and read a book a week from a different section of the library. Even though they had some really cool edition of some Muggle literature, Remington avoided going to that section. She brought plenty of Muggle books with her; they were sitting on her small bookshelf in her single Draco room.

She’d already read a script from the Drama section, a book on the history of the magical community in Boulder in the 70’s, and a guide on how to make kneazles love you. This time, Remington wanted to find something on spells that she could try. There were way too many spell related things in the library, so today the brown haired girl was just browsing. Her hair was pulled out of her brown eyes and held there by one of the bows her dad made her. This one looked like a calico kitten, and the ribbon that wrapped around her ponytail made it look like the kitten’s tail was curled around her hair, holding it in place.

Her fingers brushed against a particularly decorative spine on the shelf in front of her, and she’d begun pulling the book from the shelf when a voice came from behind her.

“You’re in my way.”

Remington turned slowly with one eyebrow raised and looked at the boy. Most people thought they could push the quirky, darker skinned girl around; it was always cute when someone tried. She wasn’t sure why he was so upset, but she didn’t appreciate his tone. The girl squared her shoulders, taking comfort in the fact that she was a little bigger than the other student. “Um… I was here first. So, technically, you’re in my way. But,” she said with a smile, “If you ask, I can move.”
