Just don't burn your tongue eating too fast

Kaye looked at him like he was an idiot, and Ruben made a face right back, two of her briefly flashing in front of him when his eyes crossed over. "I am not stupid. I know what bread is, and bowls. Obviously. But how can they be making a business out of something so wrong?" Admittedly he had no idea how big a deal it was, but as Kaye herded him off to pick up their food at a separate counter (bizarre), he spied the phrase bread bowl next to the pasta dishes, too. Bread and macaroni? How could anyone dilute the taste of pasta with even more dough? Fan, Americans were basically aliens.

(Un)fortunately, he was saved the trouble of not being able to picture bread bowls by having that very monstrosity plopped down on his tray. Blue eyes blinked at it once before he scoffed loudly and repeated "What the hell?" But Kaye was already moving, again, so he rolled his eyes at the wait staff behind the counter, picked his tray up, and followed her, again. Her decision to kick out some scrawny teens from a fireside seat was no surprise to him. "Oh, yay, you will not freeze." It might have been deadpan, if not for his grin.

"So what's wrong with you?"

Unzipping his jacket to hang it over the back of a chair, the Swede scoffed once more, this time in mock indignation. "Wrong? Is there anything wrong with wanting to take out an invalid who was in hospital all holiday and finally released?" He wasn't actually offended, duh; firstly because he was rarely ever offended and secondly because, as nuts an angle that was for first-date conversation, it wasn't the worst he'd had, and it wasn't unusual coming from Kaye, either.

He took a seat, long legs stretching out almost to hers under the table. "Nuance. Ja, that is the word for it. Nuanced with all the flavours of boring. Boring weather, boring people, boring homework..." He trailed off and picked up a spoon. And proceeded to discard it in favour of poking the outside of his bread lump skeptically with one finger. When it didn't implode, he physically dug in, ripping off a piece of soup-soaked bread and munching down. Huh. It... wasn't bad. "No way this is really a Mug-- a normal place," he informed her, belatedly aware of what were probably mostly Muggles around them. "Because this is not normal." Now he was poking the bread again, soup dripping down his finger from his messy eating. Maybe he should switch back to a spoon... But Kaye had seen him eat before, she knew what to expect, and he wasn't trying to impress her anyways because that was unnecessary. She'd asked him out, after all.

Ruben snorted into his coffee. “Ouch.” Poor Marissa. She was nice, but not in an unbearable way, and had a damn fine body, and yet somehow she’d wound up on Kaye’s bad side. Or maybe those reasons he ... more

Kaye stopped glaring at him after his apology. He didn’t really mind either way (glaring was not an unwelcome behaviour to the Swede) but it was good to know that she’d been listening and took him... more

Of course, that was the part he took hold of. Kaye rolled her eyes and waved her hand, as if trying to dismiss it. Her not being kissed before probably wasn’t a big deal. She was probably the only... more
