We're just going in circles today, aren't we

Whoops, that piece of bread seemed to have been the last finger in the dam. Ruben blinked once at the bread bowl, observing the quantity of soup now beginning to rush out of the side where his hungry fingers had ripped the bread a bit more than necessary. Even with squash chunks in the way, both the liquid and the thicker puree was slipping past. For a moment he considered just dumping it out and eating the soup from a normal bowl like a normal person - but then he remembered that the bread bowl had been served to him on a standard plate. Because of course it was on a plate. Why would you put an edible bowl on anything but a flat surface? It wasn't like anyone was gonna inevitably eat the bowl and then need somewhere to put their soup, right? Pfft. Ridiculous.

With a grumpy exhalation, he picked up the bread bowl with both hands and leaned it to the side to prevent all the soup falling out. It worked surprisingly well. Fan-pineappleing-tastic. Now how was he supposed to keep eating?

Glancing up to Kaye, he couldn't hold back a laugh at the look of total confusion on her face. "Why would I have brought you here if I did not agree that to have a date together would be fun?" Ruben pointed out, both rhetorically and quite reasonably, he thought. He'd never yet had a date that he didn't enjoy, so he'd never consider turning one down, not even when the chance was offered to him in a drug-induced stupor. Granted, Ruben was into a lot of people, so his opinion of dates overall might change if he wound up on one with someone he wasn't into, but he wouldn't be finding that out today because of course Kaye was someone he was into. Impossible not to be. The exact level of into varied; Kaye, for instance, he didn't feel the impulse to just grab her and kiss her like he did most people Holland some people. But she was attractive and satisfying company, and dates with her would surely be fun.

Which this one was so far, absolutely, even if (possibly because) she had apparently no memory of proposing a date to him. But, wait, she had never dated before? Huh. "Do not panic," he said to her in a tone that could be interpreted as reassuring and/or commanding. "Dates can be serious, but they can also be not very serious. Like this. I mean, I am not in a suit and tie; I am holding soup." It was also now starting to drip down his fingers, which was probably a sign he should get back to eating it, but too bad, Kaye was imploding for no reason and he should try to fix that first. "Really I am sorry you did not realize," he continued, and yes that was genuine, "and this does not have to be a date, because maybe that is unfair to you? But... ja, I was wanting it to be."

  • Not sure I agree with that. - Kaye, Thu Oct 26 21:37
Oh, son of a Banshee. Kaye couldn’t remember when she started having a crush on Ruben. The first time they met, on Pearl Street, there had been some hard core flirting. It was actually a very similar ... more

      • Kaye desperately wanted to reach over and knock the bread out of Ruben’s hand. She hated being confused. She hated not being the one in the know. Not knowing how her own feelings were working right... more
        • Impossible - Ruben, Sun Oct 29 22:26
Kaye stopped glaring at him after his apology. He didn’t really mind either way (glaring was not an unwelcome behaviour to the Swede) but it was good to know that she’d been listening and took him... more
          • Don't you mean "I'm Possible" - Kaye, Tue Oct 31 20:39
Of course, that was the part he took hold of. Kaye rolled her eyes and waved her hand, as if trying to dismiss it. Her not being kissed before probably wasn’t a big deal. She was probably the only... more
