Me too

Claudia was by no means immune to flattery; she liked being told that she looked lovely. When Camilla said that she didn’t look like a girl anymore, however, two small spots of pink appeared high on the third year’s cheeks. It was definitely acceptable to be growing up - it happened to everyone - yet striking the right balance between girlhood and womanhood was notoriously difficult to achieve. Claudia doubted she would ever dress like Camilla (the older girl didn’t look unattractive, but that simply wasn’t Claudia’s style; she was drawn to more classic looks) but it was definitely possible for her to dress too old for her tender age of thirteen. She didn’t think this particular dress was too old, though - it’s bold polka dot pattern and playful collar placed it well within appropriate style paradigms for her age group. It was, admittedly, too short and fitted to be entirely appropriate, judged by her own society’s standards, but Claudia would have to confess to not caring about that as much as she ought. She certainly would never be caught in Muggle jeans, Good Merlin, but even the strictest rules were malleable while the third year wasn’t among those who might be aggrieved.

Connor might care, Claudia thought, as she admired her reflection with satisfaction. He might not think it was proper for a young lady of her background and breeding, and he might be right, but then if he could suspend his moral ideals for even the briefest of moments, he might notice that actually Claudia looked quite becoming, even if she thought so herself. Although Camilla was right - it didn’t go with her hair. That was okay, Claudia didn’t often have her hair in ringlets like this. An elegant, sweeping updo might compliment it nicely, and maybe she could trade her dark blonde for something a few shades lighter…

Claudia’s musings about her hair were disrupted as Camilla brought her some shoes over to try. “Which ones do you prefer?” the older girl asked. Claudia contemplated the gold, low heels briefly, but she’d barely worn anything higher than half an inch. Besides, they were too… or perhaps they weren’t enough… They were very gold. They seemed to suit Camila’s style more than Claudia’s own. The flats, on the other hand, were an identical shade; it was almost as if they’re been made to match. Claudia thanked Camilla, and took the aquamarine shoes to try. They were immediately extremely comfortable, which probably meant they were expensive, but Claudia didn’t mind at all - she made it a point never to look at how much anything cost.

“Perfect,” she commented, admiring her reflection yet again. “I have a white cardigan that would go exceptionally well,” she added. She had no idea when she would wear the outfit - certainly not to meet her mother for breakfast - but she had convinced herself (with Camilla’s help) that she would buy it. She would, of course, had to leave it at the store to collect later, after her mother had departed, just in case she asked about Claudia’s shopping; the younger girl strongly suspected her mother wouldn’t approve. In some ways that made the purchase yet more appealing. “I’m going to get it,” Claudia decided. With one final glance in the mirror, she returned to the changing room to get dressed back into her original, family-safe attire.

“Are you trying anything today?” she called to Camilla.
