Claudia looked at him again and Connor hoped that he had made his intentions clear. He hated that he had hurt her with his actions - twice! - and he really did want to make it up to her. Of course, he didn’t have much of an idea of how to do that. But he did want to. But Claudia was smiling at him, just a bit, but smiling. And Connor felt relieved. Perhaps he had made his feelings clear after all.

Of course Claudia had been obligated to distance herself from Connor after his unseemly outburst and subsequent brawl in the Cetus commons last term. That only made sense - even one or the other would have been something that a well-mannered girl from a good family would not want to be affiliated with. Connor’s own brother had distanced himself, although given Dade’s strange friendship with Andrew, Connor had his suspicions about the motivations involved. But it seemed as though Claudia had never intended to separate herself from Connor quite as much as he had thought; she had merely intended to end their exclusive arrangement. Which made very little sense to Connor, although he absolutely would not be voicing his confusion. As far as he was aware, very few people outside of the pair of them were aware of the exclusive arrangement they had agreed to in the last term. It was hardly as if they had done anything unseemly, and even if they had it wouldn’t have been in public. But Connor was quite glad Claudia was interested in re-establishing their friendship as it was.

“Thank you for your understanding,” the English boy said, a relieved smile emerging. “I would be absolutely delighted to be friends once more.” He was, of course, not going to broach the subject of their other arrangement unless she did. Things had already gone better than Connor had previously hoped. “Do let me know if there are reparations I can make for my misunderstanding of your intentions,” he added. Connor really did feel bad that he had misinterpreted the situation with Claudia, and he hoped to make it right.
