That's because nobody likes him

Nick laughed. Of course Frankie had tried to recruit everyone in Lyra. His best friend was possibly more into Magic than he was, which was pretty impressive. Nick loved playing Magic the Gathering. Games were usually quick but engaging, which meant that he could commit to playing a couple, as opposed to other boardgames which tended to run longer. And be more complicated, in his opinion. In general, the blonde was not particularly interested in boardgames. In his experience, that was more of an Aquila thing anyway.

“I’m not really a boardgames person as a rule,” Nick admitted, almost sheepishly. “They take too long and are waaay too complicated.” It was weird that Holland didn’t like Magic but they did like other boardgames, but to each their own, he guessed. But anyway, that wasn’t the point. If Holland didn’t really play Magic much, how else was he supposed to get them talking to Frankie without being too obvious? The Draco thought hard. Oh the other thing they had in common - Quidditch. That was a good one. “Quidditch is more my jam,” Nick said. Holland had been on the Lyra team for a while and knew that he was a Beater and now Captain of the Draco team.

They had arrived at the ice cream shop, and Holland opened the door for Nick. He grinned. They were always polite like that, it was something Nick liked rather a lot about them.

When he got to the counter, Nick paused for a second to examine the options before deciding to order what he always got at Finnigan’s. “Can I have a double scoop of Praline Popper on a cone, please?” he asked. Praline Popper was his favorite flavor, in part because he like pralines but in part because the ice cream had something it that made it fizzy sensations in his mouth, intermittently. It was almost like a root beer float, but without root beer (which Nick hated) and with more ice cream (which Nick anti-hated). He paid in wizarding coins, then went to sit at one of the tables outside. While he waited for Holland to get their ice cream and pay, Nick idly licked his ice cream and watched the people passing them. To Muggles, Finnigan’s appeared to be an empty store-front with a ‘For Rent’ sign on it. They had no idea Nick was there.
