Ruben Lundqvist
Already feeling the need to leave [Kaye]
Sat Sep 16, 2017 21:33

It was the second day back at RMI, and already Ruben was bored. Over the past twenty-four hours, he had knocked a Bludger around the pitch, scared off some tiny firstie who’d wandered too close, and then showed off his physical prowess even further by doing a full-body workout while still on his broom, including stretches and chin-ups. (He had, shortly after being recruited to the Aquila team, discovered this alternative use of a broomstick. Quidditch was a stupid sport, but at least he could make use of his airtime with some mixed strength and agility training.) Furthermore, he’d rearranged all his furniture the way he liked it, since apparently the elves had tidied the dorms while he was away, as well as sized up the new kid in Aquila, casually threatened to wallop some younger student whose name was not relevant for him to remember, and even managed to make it to his classes.

Even Defense Against the Dark Arts. Which sucked on multiple levels, the first one being the lame ‘defense’ bit, but apparently was going to suck even more now since their new professor was some too-smiley woman who somehow seemed even less stable than that weird hippy in Lyra. Who the hell had decided that she was an appropriate teacher? Ruben was willing to bet she knew absolutely nothing about the Dark Arts. He could definitely teach the class better, and look better doing it, too. Pfft.

All this considered and Ruben had low hopes for the rest of the year, so quickly decided it would obviously be a better use of time to just hang out with Kaye. Especially since, y’know, she was finally out of hospital and stuff. Being in the same House made it easy for the blonde to just flop on the couch after his Ancient Runes class and wait for her to show up in the commons. As soon as Ruben spotted her, he got to his feet, holding his arms out as if to block her access. “Not today!” he announced, referencing the many times they’d claimed the couch for a lazy hour or two. “I am getting out of here, and I need you to keep company with me because most everyone else is less tolerate-able.”

To his great satisfaction, they were soon on Pearl Street. Not without the usual chaos, of course, but Kaye catching him trying to steal back his lighter while they were riding the elevator and reacting quote-unquote appropriately didn’t slow them down too long. Not that Ruben was exactly moving quickly, either. He just wanted to be rid of the school and pretend it didn’t exist for a bit, and there was no better way to do that than by sauntering down the street, kicking up snow, and challenging Kaye to a round of who can one-up each other the best. Or possibly one-down was a better name for it. Whatever. It was always a good time. Who cared about semantics?

“It is hard to make eye-contact when you are always wearing a mask,” he deadpanned at one point, although there was a glint of a smirk in his (non-eyeliner’d) blue eyes. This became much more pronounced as he switched topics abruptly. “Also, I am hungry. Pick someplace.” Ruben flapped a hand around aimlessly, although a part of him was vaguely wondering whether she would interpret this as a date once food was on the table… heh. Anyways. Kaye hadn’t mentioned her date comment at the hospital yet, but he assumed it’d come up sooner than later, though hopefully later as he still wasn’t exactly certain how to respond if she did ask him out again. “I assume that you have not been stuck on hospital food long enough to have forgotten what good foods exist here?”

    • Sorry I kept you waiting, then! - Kaye Packman, Fri Sep 29 21:56
Kaye was grumpy. Well, furious definitely fit the bill more than grumpy, but she’d had time to stew over how angry she was, and it had fizzled out into an end of the school day sort of grump. Being... more
      • I'm fine to wait a little - Ruben, Sat Sep 30 20:26
Kaye immediately bolted at the mention of food. Well, not bolted intentionally away from him, but bolted in the direction of food, he assumed. He couldn’t hold back a laugh, hastily turning to follow ... more
        • I'll try to speed things up, though - Kaye, Fri Oct 6 20:55
Sometimes Ruben asked questions and Kaye didn’t know what to do with them. There was a slight language barrier between them, which led to misunderstandings and hilarity. They both spoke two-ish... more
          • Kaye looked at him like he was an idiot, and Ruben made a face right back, two of her briefly flashing in front of him when his eyes crossed over. "I am not stupid. I know what bread is, and bowls.... more
            • Don't tell me what to do! - Kaye, Mon Oct 16 19:24
“It’s not weird. Squash soup is weird, but bread bowls aren’t weird.” Kaye took the lid of her bowl, which was just more bread, and dipped it in Ruben’s soup. She’d never actually had squash soup, so ... more
              • Well you don't have to listen! - Ruben, Tue Oct 17 21:10
The expression on Kaye’s face when she tasted his soup made him crack up, a loud laugh bursting out. It was a good thing that he’d already swallowed his most recent faceful of bread, because... more
                • I don't have to do anything! - Kaye, Sun Oct 22 10:15
“Have you ever considered that you’re the one with a poor sense of taste?” Kaye responded without a pause, “You’re the one who slept with Carrot Top, after all.” She’d never understood the red-head’s ... more
                  • Oh good, so we're in agreement - Ruben, Sun Oct 22 17:18
Ruben snorted into his coffee. “Ouch.” Poor Marissa. She was nice, but not in an unbearable way, and had a damn fine body, and yet somehow she’d wound up on Kaye’s bad side. Or maybe those reasons he ... more
                    • Not sure I agree with that. - Kaye, Thu Oct 26 21:37
Oh, son of a Banshee. Kaye couldn’t remember when she started having a crush on Ruben. The first time they met, on Pearl Street, there had been some hard core flirting. It was actually a very similar ... more
                      • Whoops, that piece of bread seemed to have been the last finger in the dam. Ruben blinked once at the bread bowl, observing the quantity of soup now beginning to rush out of the side where his hungry ... more
                        • Kaye desperately wanted to reach over and knock the bread out of Ruben’s hand. She hated being confused. She hated not being the one in the know. Not knowing how her own feelings were working right... more
                          • Impossible - Ruben, Sun Oct 29 22:26
Kaye stopped glaring at him after his apology. He didn’t really mind either way (glaring was not an unwelcome behaviour to the Swede) but it was good to know that she’d been listening and took him... more
