If she was being honest, Marissa wouldn’t have objecting to finding company out on the Pitch. A lot of her friends exercised, so she wouldn’t have been surprised to find someone out here. The student body at Rocky Mountain International was way more active than people might expect for an underground magic school, so there was almost always someone on the Pitch.

She’d momentarily hoped Elijah might be there. The last time they ran into each other when she was having Confusing Danny Feelings, he’d ended up kissing her, and she wouldn’t mind picking up where they left off. One of her Quidditch players, Ethan Addams, had tried to persuade her into some questionable actions while looking for something for Footloose backstage. That had been before Danny broke things off, though, and she hadn’t been interested. Plus, the way he suggested meant that he was way more interested in the rumor mill’s version of Marissa instead of the red-head herself. They were pretty similar people, but there were some differences between the real version and what people made up.

Still, she would have preferred taking up Ethan on his offer than spending time with Camilla. Marissa didn’t have a very high opinion of the girl before Danny had hooked up with the Cetus at her party; that hadn’t helped change her opinion. From their very brief interactions, Marissa found her mildly annoying at best.

“Oh, okay,” Marissa blinked. If Camilla was just going to leave, then it’d be fine. She wasn’t in the mood for a conversation even with people she really enjoyed; she wouldn’t know how to talk to Camilla right now. “Bye, then.” She moved to put her earbuds back in and start jogging, but then Camilla kept talking. And she was being so nice. Damn it.

You were amazing in Footloose, Marissa. Congratulations on the great show you guys put up. It was really entertaining.”

“Um… thank you,” she gave Camilla a small smile and shifted her weight uncomfortably. She should have gone to the theater instead and started re-organizing the prop room. People were always so ready to get out of the theater to whatever post-show celebrations they wanted that they never put things back in the right places during strike. She could be fixing that right now. “I didn’t know you came. I never pegged you for a theater- oh, well, right, Elijah was in it. He was good, too.”
