Marley Chapman [3rd year, Lyra]
I want a major one!

Over the last couple years, Marley had really come to enjoy Quidditch, and she thought she was really good at it, too. Granted, her standard for being “really good” at things basically came down to having fun while also being somewhat productive, which were requirements that covered basically every single thing she did in her daily life, including eating and sleeping. This common label of everything as “really good” didn’t at all lessen how she viewed her (debatable) skills at Quidditch.

Sure, she hit with about half the accuracy of all the other Beaters, and half her balls wound up either veering wide of their target or narrowly missing her own teammates, but that meant that half the time, she hit well. Well enough that Captain Frankie had kept her on the team for two whole years, even though he was so much older than her and probably wanted to have someone older as his Beater-partner. Well enough to be Really Good.

So anyways, Marley was really good at Quidditch, but she’d actually never played Quodpot before, or even heard of it. Her mum was a former Quidditch player (just casually in school, though that wasn’t an important detail) and still enjoyed Quidditch and kept track of all her favourite teams’ scores; maybe that was why she had never mentioned Quodpot to Marley. It surely couldn’t be as exciting as Quidditch. Or maybe her mum also didn’t know what Quodpot was. They spent a lot of time living in the States, but they were Canadian, after all, and Quodpot was American, at least according to the sports book she had flipped through impatiently at the library yesterday.

But today, that hole in her education was all gonna be fixed! If it didn’t blow up first.

When the big man’s Quaffle exploded, Marley jumped. She somehow managed to keep hold of her broom instead of dropping it onto the grass, which surprised her, but she didn’t manage to prevent herself from letting out a too-high-pitched shriek of surprise, which also surprise her but probably shouldn’t have. Hastily attempting to smooth down her hair, as the mini-afro had bushed even farther from her head at the sudden movement, Marley cast a not-very-sneaky look enough, hoping that Connor hadn’t noticed her shriek. Not that no one else’s opinion mattered, too, of course, because all of them both mattered and didn’t, because that made sense, but she felt like she should try to keep Connor from getting a loud impression of her since he was such a quiet person and she should balance him out better.

Thinking about Connor made the rest of the lesson pass quickly - or maybe it was just a shorter lesson than normal. Either way, one minute she was nodding along to Sheldon Carter’s explanation, dark curls bouncing out of place yet again, and then the next minute he was waving at them to go do stuff. Doing stuff was another thing that Marley was really good at.

Swinging her broom onto her shoulder, she spun around to face the person beside her, not noticing how she narrowly avoided whacking them with her broom in the process. “Wanna partner up?” she questioned, flashing them a wide, inviting grin. “I’ve never played Quodpot before, and, like, I didn’t think this was gonna be nearly as fun as Quidditch, either. But I guess we’re not really playing right now, since it’s just practice laps or something. And I guess it must be fun enough to match Quidditch, too. I mean, nothing explodes in Quidditch!” The way she said this made it obvious that the lack of explosions was a problem. Marley liked being a Beater, but she thought she would like it even more if she got to whack exploding Bludgers around.
