Exploding with excitement

Kit was super ready for the lesson. She had thrown on a neon yellow shirt over blue jeans and her favorite bright pink sneakers and run to the Quidditch Pitch as fast as she could. Obviously Kit didn’t have a broom yet because she was only eleven but Marissa was really good at Quidditch and Kit wanted to be too. The first year wasn’t entirely sure what Quodpot was but it started with a Q like Quidditch and she was pretty sure it was going to be just as fun. It was a little weird that they were having school for a Quodpot lesson but they’d also had a class for flying so she supposed that it probably made sense to the school people.

They were having a guest speaker and when Coach Reid introduced him, he was juggling. Kit really wanted to learn how to juggle. It was in her top three things that she wanted to learn, actually, but she kept getting distracted before she actually learned. And then there was an explosion and Kit leapt backwards dramatically at the sound, accidentally crushing the toes of the person behind her.

“Sorry,” she whispered loudly, before returning her attention to the speaker.

They were supposed to listen to the ball, which was called a Quod, which intrigued Kit. Was the ball going to talk to them? She imagined the ball speaking in rhyme or riddles and having to figure out when it was going to explode. And then all of a sudden it was time for them to grab some brooms and start practicing with the Quod, which Kit was so ready for. She couldn’t wait to tell Marissa all about how they listened to Quods and stuff. Kit was pretty sure it would prepare her for Quidditch. How, exactly, she wasn’t sure but it was definitely going to help.

“Hey,” Kit said to the person next to her as she grabbed one of the school brooms. “Do you want to be partners? I’m really good at riddles,” okay, sometimes, “so I bet I’ll be good at this too.”
