Myfanwy Owen
Where are my L plates?

Disgusting disappointed to discover she didn't have a roommate after all, Myfanwy had done her best to settle into her own dormitory. Holland had their own dormitory too, Myffi had learned, but she still didn't know what the whole deal was there. That wasn't why she was out on the pitch, though. She was out on the pitch because she'd never ever done flying in a broomstick before, and Rose said that loads of people in the school were on the Quidditch teams. The coach had organised a special introductory flying lesson for Myfanwy because she had missed out at the start of the year, and he had said that she was welcome to come to the first year classes if she wanted to improve but Myffi didn't want to learn how to fly with all the first years. Now that she had the basics down she'd teach herself thank you very much and not be made fun of just because she hadn't flown a broomstick before. There wasn't much point learning Quidditch when you didn't live near any other witches or wizards.

So anyway Myffi had on a pair of shorts - they were organic linen and kind of beige coloured but she'd sewn some colourful flower patches on them to brighten them up a bit - and a faded green t-shirt with a tassel hem around her hips, and she was coming to practise flying. She was using one of the school broomsticks because obviously she didn't own her own (although if it turned about that she did get good enough to play Quidditch then she still might not buy her own room anyway because the school rooms seemed to be in good nick and there was literally no point wasting materials on something she would only use at school when the school had all these brooms she could borrow. It didn't make sense) and it seemed to know what it was doing. It came up when she told it to and stayed still so she could climb onto it and everything.

Myfanwy wasn't flying very high above the ground, maybe only a couple of metres, because she was still a novice and she didn't like the idea of falling. They didn't even have helmets or anything, which was good from a fashion point of view because she could wear her dark hair up in a high ponytail with a yellow ribbon tied around it without a helmet squashing it into her head, bit as a safety consideration it seemed an obvious oversight. Maybe that was one of the reasons Myffi was flying quite slowly and low to the ground.

The fifth year wasn't sure how she felt about flying. It was okay, but not very comfy, and maybe she would be less afraid of falling off as she got better at it. She might feel better about learning as well if she ever had the pitch to herself but there always seemed to be somebody else there. “Have you ever fallen off?” The Lyra asked as she flew very slowly past another student on the pitch.
