It could be worse

“Immobulus, right,” Myffi nodded. She could give it a try. Her spellwork was pretty good really, at least average, and it was one of those spells that probably wouldn’t cause much damage if her aim was off and she ended up hitting another student or one of the plants instead.

As if her thoughts were somehow governing reality, that is precisely what happened when her partner tried the spell again and it missed a billywig, finding a screaming plant as it’s target. There was so much racket in the greenhouse already it was barely noticeable that the plant stopped making noise for a short while. Myffi didn’t understand why Professor Bennett decided to lift the silencing charm - they would be out of the greenhouse as soon as they caught the billywigs, which would possibly be done quickly and more easily if the students could hear their own thoughts.

He introduced himself as Elijah, and he also said the shortened, letter version that Myffi had associated with him. So it was EJ after all, but she liked the name Elijah so she probably would just call him that - it’s not like they were friends or anything so she didn’t need to use his nickname. She didn’t have the opportunity to voice this thought out loud, however, as it seemed Elijah had been stung by something. Probably a billywig, but in all this commotion it was impossible to be sure.

“Oh dear,” Myffi said, the expression on her face sympathetic and apprehensive. Was he going to start floating now? This was certainly more unusual than their regular Magizoobotany classes, although in all honesty sometimes Professor Bennett lost control of those, too. Myfanwy could understand why Elijah claimed to hate the class.

“They’re not usually this disruptive,” she said fairly, although there was some amusement in her voice. This session wasn’t particularly productive - not pleasant, especially if you were getting stung - but the sight of people around them starting to float above the ground was entertaining. “Do you think you float higher the more stings you get?” She wondered aloud, carefully watching Elijah for signs he was about to defy gravity.

I don't know was not a very reassuring answer and Elijah frowned in response. He belatedly wished that he'd partnered with someone else, but really everyone else was too far away for him to get to.... more

      • Could it? - Elijah, Thu Jan 4 16:09
Elijah wasn’t sure how fast billywig stings worked. He felt a little giddy, but his feet were still securely on the ground. At least for the moment. It was ridiculous that they had been offered only... more
