Rose Farnon
It's okay, I'll be the adult here

Rose was on the Quidditch Pitch in gray sweats and a form-fitting black t-shirt. She had just finished working on her dives and had moved on to groundwork - exercises to strengthen her core. Due to Rose’s swimming regimen, she probably didn’t need to do more work in that area, but Seeker Weekly had published the training regimen of the world’s top five Seekers in the latest edition, and Rose wanted to try them. She knew she probably wouldn’t play at university, but it was still worth gearing up for what she had left. Plus, intramurals Quidditch was probably a thing at uni. Wherever she ended up.

Shifting so that she was facing the ground, Rose started doing planks. She had only heard back from Harvard - the deferral - and Tift College. Tift had rolling admissions, which was why Rose had heard back so quickly; she had done a last-minute application to the school after Professor McKindy had put her in touch with Dr. Zinnea Myers-Ross, who worked in spell development surrounding the abilities of magical creatures. Professor McKindy had given Rose a couple of papers that Dr. Myers-Ross had written (one of which listed Professor McKindy as a co-author) and Rose was absolutely fascinated by her work. She had also been really approachable when the seventh-year had owled her. Dr. Myers-Ross had given Rose a lot of information about the Charms program at Tift and the research opportunities that would be available to her even as a freshman and - well, Rose was kind of excited. Harvard was Harvard, but she knew it would be difficult to get into research as a first-year student, and that their standards were ridiculously high for who got to work with the top professors. And there was a bunch of really cool stuff that happened at Harvard, but Professor McKindy had said that Dr. Myers-Ross was one of the top researchers in the field. Tift was an all-girls school, which Rose thought was a little weird, but when it came down to it, Tift was an alluring alternative to Harvard.

With a grunt, Rose rolled over so that she was lying on the ground, staring up at the sky. She wasn’t entirely sure where Marissa had applied, but she hadn’t mentioned any schools in Georgia, and Tift was kind of secluded anyway. Maybe if she told Marissa to apply to Tift she would get in? The school had a 60% admissions rate, which was pretty high. And Holland definitely hadn’t applied to anywhere, because as they had pointed out, there were places in the American South where they couldn’t use a public restroom. Rose had never thought of that, and thought it seemed a bit ridiculous. Mountains out of molehills, in her opinion.

Then she heard her voice and she sat up. There was Danny, clearly not dressed for a work-out, crossing the Pitch. There seemed to be something wrong; he wasn’t using the usual cheerful, bantering tone that he often took with Rose.

”I need to talk to you. About Dade. And Claudia.”

“All right,” Rose said, drawing the words out longer than she might have normally. Dade had come to her that morning and let her know that Claudia followed him out of class and that he’d hexed her before she could hex him. She had been a little confused, but had been supportive of his decision. It wasn’t until later, when she happened to pass Holland in the hallway, that Rose had thought to ask her friend about their opinion, since they were the person who had most recently fought with Claudia, to Rose’s knowledge, and might know what was up with her. Rose was positive Dade wouldn’t hex someone without any provocation, but he had seemed hesitant to give many details.

It was Holland’s theory that Dade was feeling jumpy around Claudia because of whatever issue he was having about being gay or like Holland or whatever. Rose didn’t get it, but she was proud of her baby brother for protecting himself. She had been a little taken aback when Heather had stopped her not two minutes after she had run into Holland, and mentioned casually that Dade had actually set a hallway on fire. Rose figured that Claudia probably could do with a little bit of a scare and if it prevented her from using any of the nasty spells she had used on Danny and Holland, Rose was perfectly fine with that. Prissy little brat.

  • Let’s escalate this, shall we? - Dardanius Dubois, Sat May 5 09:57
Dardanius was irritable. Not long ago, Claudia had told him about being attacked in the corridor by Dade Farnon. While he wasn’t on the best terms with Claudia currently, he was still responsible for ... more

“I’m sure,” Danny replied, sounding a great deal more certain than he felt. Rose had agreed to talk to Dade, and that was all he desired out of this conversation. He accepted his sister had a very... more
