Just trying to blend in

Eugene flopped about on the ground, growing increasingly agitated, he was sure the sheet had gotten bigger and grown to cover the entire Quidditch Pitch, because no matter how much Eugene rolled about it was still there. He was beginning to worry that the ghosts had tripped him up and used sneaky ghost magic to weigh the sheets down and trap him in darkness, forever.

He was just going to wither away on the fake grass, that you probably couldn’t even eat, and he’d turn into a little stickman so one day someone would just step on him and SNAP Eugene would be no more. He was just thinking about what a really clever, really evil plan it was when- "Are you being a person or an animal?"

OH, people could still see him. He wasn’t going to get snapped! Phew, that was like a huge relief because Eugene was not ready to be a ghost just yet. But the sad thing was that apparently he wasn’t a very convincing fake-ghost because someone with a funny voice, who might even be a ghost, was mistaking him for an animal! But he didn’t look anything like a squashed polar bear, so it was only fair he be a little insulted. Crawling in the direction of the voice, and hopefully toward freedom, Eugene huffed, “I am not being an animal. I am being a ghost.

Aahaa! He could see a slip of light creeping under the sheet- soon he'd be able to see the fake sun and all the other little things he'd taken for granted. Triumphantly, he curled his fingers around the edge of the sheet and pulled it up far enough to peer out onto the Pitch and spot the ghost boy standing there. Eugene was torn. He still hadn’t found any ghosts but on the other hand he hadn’t blown his cover- so far things were a success.

Eugene realised it was important it stayed that way so he made a tough call and decided not to come out from his hiding place. Instead he shot a hand out from under the sheet and twitched his fingers, gesturing for the other boy to join him beneath the sheet. “Quick,” he called urgently, “before they see you!”

“A ghost?” Anssi echoed, baffled at how a moving blanket was supposed to be a ghost. He could not claim to be an expert about ghosts, but from what he did know for certain, ghosts were mostly or... more
