Myfanwy Owen
A Confession [Tag Leo]

The time had come. After thinking about it for a lot of the term so far, Myfanwy had decided that she was going to tell Leo about her distillery. Kaye already knew, even though she didn’t really do much with this knowledge (which was just fine, really, Myffi was happy to have it all to herself now Ruben had gone, and she had tried not to bring it up at all around Kaye, at first because the two girls hadn’t got along so well, but then suddenly they did, and that was fine, but now Kaye and Ruben were having troubles, and mentioning anything about Ruben didn’t seem like a good idea right now), but Kaye and Myffi were both graduating at the end of the year. Either the Welsh girl would need to pack everything up with her and take it home, or she should tell someone else about it, maybe show them how to use the equipment, and which spells were helpful, and the legacy of illegally produced alcohol could continue unhindered at Rocky Mountain. Myffi wasn’t sure that Leo would actually want to continue it, and she wouldn’t blame him, because he would get into so much trouble if the staff ever found out, but at least if she told him there was that option. Also she was keeping enough secrets from him already, so telling him one of them would be a weight off her mind.

The winter chill had gone from the air, and the AgriClub had started planting out their Spring vegetables. The seventh year was comfortable outside without her jacket, dressed in a blue and purple checked dress (that was essentially a heavyweight shirt but longer, buttons down the front and on the cuffs, with a collar and everything) with purple woolen socks (responsibly sourced, obviously) curled around her slender calves, above white canvas shoes with rainbow coloured laces. Myffi had asked Leo to meet her by the rock wall. She pulled her straight, dark hair into a ponytail before setting out, and checked the allotment on the way. She was so attached to so many things at RMI now - her friends, a select few of her professors, the AgriClub, the environmental column she wrote in Rocky voices, even her job on Pearl Street - it was going to be so hard to leave it all at the end of the term. Especially Leo.

She saw the other Lyra waiting for her, as requested, by the rock wall. Myffi smiled when she saw him and waved, stepping up her pace to reach him a little sooner. “Thanks for meeting me,” she said, after greeting her boyfriend with a kiss. “There’s something particular I want to tell you.” Okay, she just had to admit there was something she’d been keeping from him for a couple of years, no problem. She could do this. “So, okay, it’s a secret. You absolutely can’t tell anyone about it, alright? Not while I’m still at school here, anyway. Do you promise?”

She knew it wasn’t fair of her to ask for him to make that promise before he even knew what he was agreeing to, but she was giving him the opportunity to walk away from it right now. If he didn’t want that burden, if Leo didn’t want to know, then Myfanwy would know straight away not to tell him. She wanted to tell him, she wanted this to be a secret they could share between the two of them, but it wasn’t up to her if Leo didn’t want that responsibility. Although, honestly, she didn’t think it was going to be a problem. From that time she’d seen him try to liberate some of Kit’s belongings in the Lyra common room, to the last time they’d shared Cledan’s brownies on the Pitch together - which had only been a couple of weeks ago - Myfanwy was reasonably certain that Leo could be trusted to keep a secret, and that he was happy to do so. She just needed clarification.
