Lucien supposed he wasn’t too surprised to hear that Francine had been a Halloween enthusiast since early childhood. It fit perfectly with her persona. Didn’t fit his at all, as he well knew, but maybe dating her would eventually change that, or at least nudge it a fraction over the line (he thought skeptically).

He was surprised, however, to hear Nick describe himself as also having been coerced. “You didn’t enjoy dressing up? Makeup and costumes and all that?” he questioned, curious despite himself. Nick had been in some of RMI’s musicals before, and that always involved costumes. Plus he was gay. Over the years, his roommate had set him straight about some of his misconceptions, but among those he had retained was the assumption that gay people were more preoccupied with appearances. Or gay men, specifically. (His only real experience with gay women - Naomi and Marissa didn’t count - was his wacko cousin Finn, who was proudly anti-combing her hair let alone wearing nice everyday clothes. Clearly, gay men and gay women just went to opposite extremes, which was strange but convenient for the sake of his category-driven brain.) It was thus surprising to think that Nick was in any way opposed to dressing up.

“Got some experience with that, hey,” he smirked, relaxing a little now that it appeared Nick had finished mocking him. The spontaneous mental image of Nick covered in multicoloured paint bubbles wasn’t a factor in that. Of course not. Heh. “Thanks, again.” He wasn’t sure if a scrubbing charm would have been his first move, or a charm at all, to be honest - there was a reason why he had decided not to continue on with Spellwork. A cleaning solution in addition to saline might do the trick, though. Fingers crossed the house-elves hadn’t emptied their trash bin yet; if he could dig out the empty paint bottle, he might be able to go off the ingredients list to modify one of the more basic potions...

“Game?” he echoed, blinking. Oh, right. Francine had mentioned something about their costumes being game characters. He couldn’t remember much else of what she had said, though, which he suspected was because the idea of it being game-related was just so weird and unfathomable that he hadn’t been able to wrap his head around it any further than that. Lucien’s favourite game was chess, but nothing even vaguely similar to their costumes existed in chess. “No, the way I remember our conversation was... pretty rushed.” His memory of when she’d first asked him to dress up was admittedly a bit fuzzy due to later, more interesting interactions that he had absolutely no desire to bring up with Nick. “Kind of jumped right into making costumes. I don’t think I’ve even seen a picture of this knight-villain or whatever it is. Or yours, for that matter. Or hers.” He’d really been going along with this whole thing blind. All for Francine. Lucien was good like that.

  • Don't get all green with envy now - Nick, Tue Jan 31 21:01
All right, Lucien was touchy tonight apparently. Nick fought the urge to roll his eyes as Lucien disregarded the option of bleach. It wasn’t exactly what Nick would suggest as a primary go-to, but... more

      • Of course, Nick had played the Legend of Zelda games as a kid. He wasn’t like Francine, who had actually brought her DS with her to school in order to be able to play one of them, but he had played.... more

“You think so? Can’t wait to be enlightened,” Lucien responded, his sarcasm deadpan like usual. It was therefore likely only semi-recognizeable as being sarcastic, which was again something quite... more
