Elijah blinked once or twice as Marissa’s first sentence settled over him. His nose wrinkled briefly as he fiddled with the brush in his fingers. He’d never considered that perhaps people were interested in him, regardless of whether they meant it as a spot of fun or as more than friends. He supposed that it was part of being friends with everyone, he was overly friendly and therefore he couldn't ever really tell whether someone had intentions outside of that box.

He’d never asked Marissa, that was true. But she never seemed like the kind of person who would be interested in him. Just like she assumed he'd been with Camilla, he assumed that he wasn't in her league. Not to mention she’d been with a few people in the school, well, as much as anyone could really be with Marissa Kendrick. Last he’d checked, it had been Emmett Lawrence who held that title, although it appeared that ended over the summer. Just another brief interlude that Elijah hadn't really payed much attention to. Really, he couldn't remember where he’d learned that piece of information to begin with.

Now though, she was telling him that the category of uninterested couldn't be applied to her. At that, clever fingers that almost never missed the quaffle nearly fumbled the brush balancing in his fingertips. That was probably the most interesting thing that had happened to him since he'd gotten back from break. Without thought, the Ceti’s mouth curled into a smile. It was a nice thing to know and a small confidence boost for the generally reserved male.

“Well,” Elijah said, stretching out his legs. His desire to fly for the night had simmered down, plus it had been late for him to practice anyway. His conversation with Marissa had certainly relaxed him a bit and he was certainly appreciative of it. “I'll certainly keep that in mind.” With a quirk of his lips, the male stood up.

Offering the cleaning brush to Marissa, Elijah waited to let go until Marissa had a good grip on it. On sudden impulse, his grip tightened on the brush before she could take it. Without much thought, Elijah stooped down and pressed his mouth against Marissa’s for a moment before pulling away, letting go of the brush at the same time. He smiled again, ducking his head a bit. “Goodnight, Marissa,” he said, straightening up again. “Thanks for the company.”

Ah, so this was more hypothetical than not. She had a party coming up, and if Elijah had told her there was an actual person, she would’ve manipulated the pairings so he’d get a chance. Marissa threw ... more
