Depends on your options

Marissa’s midterm sounded chilled out, which was probably exactly what she needed. It was difficult to properly kick back and relax when there was so much stress around at school - it was like exam time, but just constantly now. It was going to ease off a bit after midterm, Danny was sure of it, although tension was going to pick up again when exams rolled around for the seventh years. Already this year seemed like it was moving too quickly; they would be graduated before they knew it. It was an exciting and terrifying concept - so it might do her good to take a break and be with her family for a short while.

“A couple of girls from my dance camps are doing a thing for New Years, so I might make an appearance there,” Marissa added.

“You should go,” Danny encouraged her. She always talked about her dance camps with enthusiasm; he couldn’t remember her ever having a bad experience with that crowd. Even just spending time with Marissa’s family sounded much better than spending time with his own family right now (Danny was pretty sure Scott didn’t like him, but Kit liked him much better than Claudia did, apparently). “Sounds great,” he said genuinely. He’d thought before - and often - about how weird it would be to not see and hang out with their specific friendship group everyday after graduation, but it only struck Danny now how strange it was going to be not to hear Kit coming from several yards away, and find out what mischief she’d caused in potions that week, or to eat a meal on his own without Kaye appearing from nowhere to steal food from his plate.

He also wouldn’t see Claudia so often, but unless things changed between them, that might be less distressing to Danny than it might otherwise have been. “Yeah,” he drew out the syllable in response to Marissa mentioning his sister. “She’s allowed to have her own opinions,” he said fairly, kicking his feet lightly and pulling the water with his hands to begin swimming gently in wide circles around Marissa, “so she’s allowed to be surprised. Disappointed. Whatever.” Possibly a combination of the two, with some other negative reactions mixed in for added interest. “I can’t help feeling that she’s overreacting.” Of the Dubois siblings, Danny was the one historically more prone to dramatic expressions of emotion, but perhaps the tables were turning. “Still, it might be good practice for telling my parents.” He laughed a little, mocking himself. There was no point letting himself become too anxious about it; nobody had forced him to make this decision. He’d done that on his own.
