I'll stay for the dolphin

He gave her a quick kiss, and it was pretty magical. Marissa was not a stranger to kisses, but they always felt like something a little more important with Danny. They were more than just fun; there was history behind it every time. Maybe it was everything in their friendship that led up to this point, or it was just the past few days. She hadn’t really figured it out yet, because she never thought that much about kissing. She wasn’t like Danny. For her, it wasn’t an activity that required intense, dedicated thought. Most things weren’t.

This definitely wasn’t one of their longest or more intimate moments, but it still ranked in the top three. The first, of course, was when they kissed during Truth or Dare. This made second on the list, knocking the first time he kissed her down to a number three spot. It left her smiling, which was nice, because she knew all of this was going to require a Conversation.

“I can't imagine not having you as a friend.”

And there it was. Marissa sat up a little straighter, clearly giving this her full focus. She didn’t know what was going to come out of it all, but this felt like an important moment. “I wasn't expecting this.”

“That makes two of us,” she said with a nervous grin. While she’d known about Danny’s feelings for her, she hadn’t expected to have this conversation. No one would have guessed that her now infamous talk with Camilla was going to lead to her and Danny talk about this specific thing. Depending on how it went, she might need to thank Camilla after all of this. Not really, because the Cetus still hit slapped her and said some terrible things, but she’d at least think about it.

Marissa didn’t interject when Danny paused, because she knew he had more to say. He mentioned that the casual thing was too overwhelming for him, which was something she needed to try and wrap her mind around. The complete opposite was true for her. Something serious sounded like too much, not because of him, but because she recognized how much potential there was for her to screw it up.

“I…” she started slowly, trying to find her words. Once she did, and managed to put them in the right order, she continued. “I don’t know how to do this. Something serious is… there would be a learning curve for me. We’re really close to the summer, and if we decide that we want to do this, I don’t want to be the reason it doesn’t work. I would try, though. If we found a time and everything that worked for the both of us, I’d try.”
