Is our year getting invaded too?

It was early Saturday, and Dade had snuck out of the Cetus commons without his brother’s notice. He wasn’t feeling particularly like doing anything, including studying, which meant he didn’t want to go to the library. And he didn’t want to eat anything, so that ruled out the Diner. He could have made his way to the Quidditch Pitch but he hadn’t bothered figuring out the Quidditch schedule for the term, so running into Connor was possible and the last thing that Dade really wanted to do was run into his brother. It seemed like this year, Connor had gotten even more annoying than he had been before, which was impressive because Connor was just annoying as a person. It was a personality trait with him or something. He was always being prissy and had to do everything perfect and ‘what would Dad say’ and Dade was sick of the lectures, especially because a lot of them revolved around how ‘appropriate’ it was (or well, wasn’t) for Dade to be spending time with Remington. At first, Dade had thought it was just because she wasn’t a pureblood but the more comments Connor made the more Dade began to realize that it also had something to do with the fact that Remington was not white. They hadn’t spent a lot of time around people who weren’t, but that didn’t bother Dade. It did seem to bother Connor.

But anyway, that was what had landed him in the Rec Center. It was pretty abandoned, which made the dark-haired second year think that there was some sort of school-wide activity or something going on at the moment. No complaints from Dade, though, because he was wearing his swim trunks which were embarrassing, and he had goggles that made him look like he was a space alien. Rose had promised to teach him how to cast a charm on himself to function the same as goggles did but without the eye-rings (in one of her attempts to encourage him to socialize - also how he’d gotten the swim trunks) but Dade hadn’t taken her up on it yet.

Looking around to see if there was anyone to see him make an idiot out of himself - there wasn’t - Dade trepidatiously climbed to the top of one of the water slides, looked around again, and sat down to let the water propel him to the bottom. The water was fast and his stomach was left behind at the top of the slide pretty quickly, joining him once more when the rapid waters dunked him in to the pool at the bottom. The pool was, thankfully, pretty deep, and Dade took his time coming up for air. He made his way to a part that was less deep and pulled his goggles off, scowling at them and rubbing his eyes to try and get rid of the rings he knew had been pressed into his face. And then he heard a noise.

Dade whirled around, dropping his goggles into the pool as a kid surfaced and introduced himself. Wait - the kid was new? In his year? With a frown, Dade examined him. He was in Aquila, which was the House Dade had wanted to be in. “Dade Farnon,” he said slowly, his English accent marking him as part of the ‘international’ section of ‘Rocky Mountain International’. “I’m in Cetus, also a second year. What are you doing here?”

  • The new kid - Silas Graley, Tue Aug 22 16:28
Silas Graley entered the Rec Center and looked around. He had instantly fallen in love with it on his tour with the Headmaster and he couldn’t wait to get in the water. The newly minted Aquila had... more

      • Of course! - Silas, Wed Aug 23 06:51
Silas grinned as the boy said his name slowly and with an English accent. Mom had said when she had gone here there were students from all over the world. So it didn’t surprise Silas but the kid did... more
        • You say that way too happily - Dade, Wed Aug 23 08:24
Ugh. Why was everyone (except Remington) at this school stupid? Of course Dade didn’t mean his question to be about Silas’s presence in the pool. It made sense for someone to be in a pool, usually.... more
          • I'm just happy! - Silas, Wed Aug 23 09:07
Silas blinked at how Dade said no. He may have been raised in the forests and jungles of this world, but he knew when people had that tone no good came from it. Silas watched as Dade looked down for... more
            • Well I hope it's not contagious - Dade, Wed Aug 23 09:22
“They forgot ?” Dade asked incredulously. What kind of parents forgot to send their kids to school? To magical school, nonetheless. Kids who didn’t go to magical school had all sorts of issues... more
              • It is. *Rubs all over you* - Silas, Wed Aug 23 11:07
Silas smiled when Dade repeated that his parents had forgotten. He laughed when Dade told him to stop lying and how it wasn’t even a good lie. “Hand to Merlin. We were hunting a Yeti in Tibet, and... more
                • Um. Yuck? - Dade, Sat Aug 26 07:13
‘Wildlife of the World’ didn’t sound like anything that Dade recognized, but the second year realized that this kid expected him to. Admittedly, it wasn’t as if Dade was connected very strongly to... more
                  • Admit it, you love it. - Silas, Sun Aug 27 21:33
Silas watched as the kid bent over oddly and retrieved his goggles. The way Dade had said that he could do it seemed like he was afraid that Silas would steal them or something. Why would the grey... more
                    • Definitely not - Dade, Sat Sep 9 06:50
“That’s stupid,” Silas was asking him about how long he’d been at RMI, but Dade was fixated on the idea of a black Yeti. “The whole point of Yetis is that they’re white and blend into the snow.... more
