It had taken them a while, mostly because Claudia had needed to delay their trip to Pearl Street so she could be comfortable and familiar with the destination before visiting with Marley, but the two third year girls had eventually shopped together at Veela’s Vanity for nail polish, and Claudia had treated them both to a hot chocolate afterwards (she had needed the energy after spending so much time with Marley, and the heat from being outside in temperatures lower than she was used to). The trip had been a planning stage to their current social event, which essentially included painting their nails and talking about something other than homework.

A dormitory or common room would have been a more ideal environment, but Claudia was in Cetus and Marley was in Lyra, so that wasn't an option. Marley seemed to think it was, but Claudia had no intention of breaking rules or getting herself - or Marley - into trouble (Dardanius was doing that sufficiently for the both of them) so was adamant they would not enter each other’s commons. Claudia might have considered the library, but Marley was naturally a much louder person, and would undoubtedly cause disruption to the other students. Eventually they had settled on a quieter area of the rec center, which wasn't ideal but it would suffice. It was dinnertime, so most people were in the Diner; Claudia had gone in early and taken away some crudités and hummus, which were now on the table in front of her, along with the several shades of polish she now owned.

She usually dressed in a decidedly feminine way, and this evening had selected a full-length, pale blue skirt in a soft, floaty fabric, with shimmering metallic threads stitched around its hem, and a silver camisole top beneath a pale blue crocheted cardigan with mother of pearl buttons. Claudia had tied her shoulder-length, dark blonde hair back into a simple ponytail, just in case Marley might like to have a go at styling it later on in the evening, when their nails were dry. She didn't know whether she’d be able to do much with Marley’s hair in return but she’d be willing to give it a go. Right now the other girl sat across from her; “I’ll paint yours first, if you want,” Claudia offered. “What color would you like?”
