She flashed Danny a very bright smile when he agreed to stay. She knew he would. Potions could be interesting, but Marissa thought that only applied if they were in class with Rob. Danny may not have a productive afternoon ahead of him, but either option (him doing Potions or him helping her out) meant that Marissa got to be productive. It all worked out for her!

Marissa tilted her head back to look at the table, using her arms to support herself. Yes, the picture was upside-down now, but she could see where he was coming from. Maybe I could kneel on the table instead of stand on it. She was the female lead, and this was her number, but that didn’t mean she got to ignore the ensemble. They deserved to be featured, too. Even if it was for a stupid song in a stupid musical. At least this one featured a lot of dancing.

“What's the show about? I mean, I don't actually care,” here, Marissa sat back up and mocked being offended, but if I'm going to help with the ‘stage picture’, it might help to know.”

She went back to swinging her legs back and forth absentmindedly, and she leaned back on her hands. “So it’s one of those Muggle musicals based on a Muggle movie, and honestly, it’s kind of stupid,” she shrugged, “It’s called Footloose. This guy, who Nick’s playing, moves to this new town where my character lives. Nick’s character loves to dance, but he finds out that in this new town, dance is illegal. Which is stupid. And would never happen. But anyway, blah blah blah, he stands up to the big man in charge – who is my character’s dad played by Emmett.”

Marissa knew that Garen didn’t know all of the Rocky Mountain International gossip, but sometimes, based on how he cast shows, she started to think he knew more than he admitted. Why else would he cast Emmett to play her overprotective pastor father in a show? It was too funny to not do on purpose.

“Me and Nick’s character get together, they dance, ta-da, dancing is legal now and everything is happy,” she rolled her green eyes, “But…there’s a lot of dancing, so I’m okay with it. And it means Nick and I get to do a dance show together again before he graduates, so there’s that.”

She tried to think of what else Danny needed to know. Oh, what was she actually working on? “I’m working on doing choreography for this number, Holding Out for a Hero, because my character just wants to find a decent guy. I dunno why she can’t just…go and find him, and why she seems to think she needs some superhero to sweep her off her feet. Anyway, it’s me singing and three other girls doing the back up, and it’s in a diner.” Marissa sighed dramatically and lay down on her back, now talking to the ceiling.

“It’ll be a cute show, at least. And I don’t mind helping – I just wish we’d do more interesting stuff.” She paused. “Nick and I get to kiss again, so that happens.” The two of them had kissed in at least one show previously. “Stage kissing is super weird. It’s not as fun as the real thing.”

  • Hey kettle, it's the pot calling - Dardanius, Tue Jan 31 06:52
Of course Marissa was more interesting than potions homework, that didn't exactly need to be clarified. On the other hand, Danny did need to do his potions assignment to obtain a passing grade, he... more

      • Rude. - Danny, Wed Feb 1 06:55
Since even Marissa was calling the musical stupid, Danny wondered how she expected him to be interested. He did his best to listen to her synopsis of the plot, and only zoned out a couple of times.... more
        • You don't really think I'm rude - Marissa, Thu Feb 2 19:04
Marissa started thinking of other shows she would rather do than Footloose . The problem, which Garen always pointed out to her, was that her desires weren’t school appropriate. Marissa liked shows... more
          • That depends on your next post - Danny, Fri Feb 3 06:55
For just a moment it seemed as though Marissa was going to interpret his comment they way it had been intended, vis-à-vis stage kissing. But then she sat up, and said “Have you ever- wait, you’ve... more
            • I'll wait and see how you feel - Marissa, Fri Feb 3 12:36
She waited for Danny to answer. It was almost suspenseful. There was no way that Danny hadn’t kissed anyone before. They were teenagers at a small school, though. If he had, wouldn’t she have heard... more
              • Aren't you the gentleman - Danny, Fri Feb 3 15:16
Marissa scooted a little closer, and Danny tried not to be too concerned by her proximity. He still hadn’t forgotten that time in DADA. He vaguely wondered whether she might have teased him in that... more
                • I have manners - Marissa, Sat Feb 4 11:32
Marissa did think Danny was sweet. He was great, really. She could always trust Danny for some kind of laugh. They teased and flirted all the time. He really was one of her best friends at RMI. Rose, ... more
                  • You are a rare breed - Danny, Sat Feb 4 14:13
As Danny finished his explanation, he felt that Marissa was being surprisingly understanding. No wait, that wasn't fair; her being understanding was completely within her character. Danny was aware... more
                    • I think we're both pretty unique - Marissa, Sat Feb 4 15:48
It didn’t look like Danny was going to kiss her, and Marissa couldn’t help but be disappointed by that. She wasn’t the type of person to push someone if they said no; it wasn’t her style. People just ... more

He hadn’t even realised that he wanted to have this conversation with someone, but now that it had happened, Danny was glad about it. He didn’t think his kissing habits, or lack thereof, would ever... more
