Director Garen Tennant
Cinematic Adventure [all welcome!]

Normally, Garen organized RMI movie nights to show the cast and crew of that year’s musical what the whole thing was about. It gave the actors and actresses a better idea of their characters, and gave the set and costume designers inspiration. Not all movie musicals were created equal, of course (Chicago and Singin’ in the Rain were the best; at the other end of the spectrum, Garen did not even want to discuss the Sweeney Todd movie) but it was still fun, and because of the number of magic-raised students, some of them had never seen a movie before. Garen liked to be able to introduce that experience.

But RMI was doing a talent show this year, so they weren’t watching a movie for inspiration this time. His whole rationale today was: hey, we haven’t done a drive-in movie in a while.

So on a Saturday night, with the goal of a fun school event in mind, Garen transfigured sections of the seats to look like automobiles—most of them convertibles with the top down, sized to seat two, four, or five people. Muggle-savvy students might notice the range in styles, from classic Thunderbirds to modern Miatas. Garen himself had claimed himself a 1957 black Bentley at the back center of the theater. He’d been at RMI long enough to realize that having eyes on the whole of a dark room filled with students was, generally speaking, a good idea. He was not going to let his drive-in movie be ruined by arson or fistfights or anything else the students could come up with.

Then it was just a question of setting up the projector and choosing a movie. Because there was no show this year, Garen could choose anything for the students to watch. He’d toyed with the idea of playing a classic, or the film version (sadly without singing) of next year’s musical, which he had already chosen for reasons that he was certain did not technically constitute nepotism. But then he’d discovered (read as: his godson Henry had alerted him to the existence of) a musical film that was entirely created by wizards.

As far as movies went it was… er… well, it was indie. The musical was about a teenage Squib who eventually discovers that his real magic was inside him all along (singing, it was singing). Some of the songs were diegetic and it appeared the filmmaker had just discovered the concept of breaking the fourth wall and used it much too liberally, and the acting had room for improvement. BUT it was an entirely wizard-made movie musical (apparently the director-slash-writer-slash-producer was Muggleborn and the lead had been inspired by her Muggle brother), so Garen considered Someone Quiet Understands Inner Beauty a great cinematic find.

Before starting the movie, Garen made a quick announcement explaining the event and the film’s origins. “The house elves have also graciously agreed to serve ice cream floats and popcorn,” in a variety of flavors, the weirdest of which he thought was the lemon-marshmallow popcorn, “at that station at the back of the room.” He pointed to a table with two bright and cheery house elves, who waved. Satisfied, the director rose from the hood of his car to head up to the booth and roll the film. “All right, enough of me talking. Everyone just relax and enjoy the show!”

[OOC: They are not real cars with real engines and you cannot hot-wire them, so everyone quit asking me about that, all right? :p Great, now write me fun posts, and feel free to take liberties with the plot of the movie as it is completely made up.]
