I was stating the obvious.

“Raja!” Marissa exclaimed happily, placing the voice with the feet. Raja was one of her two Beaters on the Aquila Quidditch team, and she preferred him over Justin. She couldn’t wait for Justin to finish up his seventh year and vanish. Part of this was due to Justin’s very vocal dislike of Garen, which was enough to make Marissa’s blood boil. She knew that she had a special attachment to the counselor, which possibly made her bias, and she also had her own critiques of the Drama Club, but Justin was an asshole about it. The redhead didn’t understand how someone could just dislike things so much; it was probably exhausting. Plus, Garen was the sweetest adult cinnamon roll she knew. He was a close second to Lin Manuel Miranda, but she didn’t know the LMM in real life, so Garen got first place in the “cinnamon rolls she knew” category. How could Justin actively dislike Garen so much? It wasn’t human. Maybe Justin wasn’t human. This was something she’d need to discuss with Holland.

Marissa, you’re currently in a conversation. File that away. Talk to Holland about Justin’s lack of humanity later.

Right, so Raja. Marissa was glad that Raja was on the younger side, because it meant she’d get to keep him until she graduated. She hadn’t told the Beater yet, but if it were up to Marissa, she’d give him the Assistant Captain position, allowing him to inherit the team once she left RMI. He was a really good beater, and he always listened to instructions. Marissa could trust him to work hard, even though his mom was a pro and he probably knew a lot about the sport. Honestly, Raja had the makings to be a complete tool, but he was a good kid, and a team player. She liked him.

Marissa grinned in thanks and held the book back in position. She was ready to start studying again from her upside down spot when Raja asked an important question. “Is that comfortable? Like, aren’t your neck and arms gonna get tired pretty fast?”

She thought about it, and then lowered her arms. At this point, she was holding the book over her head, and she was positive that it was going to get tangled in her hair now. “So, my mom is an actress, and she told me that when she’s trying to memorize lines, she’ll do it in different places to really prove that she’s learned them. So, like, she practices in front of a mirror, and then goes in a mall and tries to see if she remembers them. I, on the other hand,” she grinned, “am trying to make this work for school. Like, maybe if I study in a memorable way, I’ll remember the stuff easier.”

Marissa dropped the book again. She sighed. “You’re right, though. My arms are ridiculously tired. And I think I’m getting dizzy. Wanna help me sit back up?”
