That's a lot of excitement

Marissa blinked, taking in what Raja just said. She didn’t realize there were people who didn’t dislike Justin. She had to remember that Raja was just a first year, and hadn’t spent the last few years dealing with the seventh year. Her dislike for Justin was absolutely biased. Most people, like Holland, found the guy annoying. Marissa felt that her dislike was particularly special.

“Okay, yeah, he helps with homework, but he also hates Garen and the Drama Club for literally no reason,” she shrugs, “and Garen is the friendliest person in the world. There’s something wrong with Justin for disliking him.”

At least Raja agreed with her about the team. She definitely wanted to push the team to improve. They were solid, which was good, but she still felt like she barely knew her team. It made them a little harder to coach. Raja was adorable, though, and she wanted to let him believe he’d achieve that goal. It was a big, audacious goal, but it was cute. She’d never heard of a team having a seven year streak for anything. Cetus came close with house points, winning four or five years in a row when her mom and aunts were in school. Apparently Cetus used to be That House.

“Realistically? Well, I dunno. Elijah’s doing a good job with Cetus, but this is Frankie’s last year in Lyra. Frankie wants to go pro, and he’s being scouted.” Marissa couldn’t imagine what that felt like. It was pressure. So much pressure. She imagined that that was what dance auditions might feel like if she did that when her own college application season started. “I think we’re going to put up a hell of a fight, but Lyra has a lot to fight for right now. They’ll be tough to beat.”

Raja blinked. Justin, terrible? “I don’t think Justin is that bad,” he stated. “He’s kinda pretentious” - Raja had looked that word up once when he overheard somebody else apply it to the seventh... more

Huh. “That seems dumb,” Raja conceded matter-of-factly. “Drama Club is cool, and Director Tennant is really nice.” The first year had minimal theatre experience, but he was doing the booth stuff for... more
