Marissa Kendrick
Just hanging out
Tue Feb 14, 2017 16:39

“Life has been good to me,” Marissa quietly half-sang, half-mumbled from her spot in the common room.

The fifth year was using the longest table in Aquila incorrectly. She originally had claimed it for homework, like a responsible fifteen year old, but she quickly got bored. By the time people started coming back from dinner, they’d discover the red head lying on her back at the very edge of the table. Her head hung off the side, she held a book, and she was desperately trying to read upside down.

“Hope you’re as happy wherever you are,” she groaned and let the book drop to the floor. Her midterm had been both eventful and not. The holiday part was crazy; she even got to see a proposal. She’d never seen something so romantic her whole life. Marissa was surrounded by grown up examples of Actual Love, which was nice. Between her parents and Gaaron, Marissa had no reason to doubt that True Love was a thing that existed in the world.

It seemed like, maybe, Aunt Kat had felt that kind of love for Rose’s now deceased mother. How did I end up with this information? The Aquila was working on a list of people Rose could go talk to. Marissa thought about it for a very long time, and she decided that Allegra’s gayness was something Rose needed to discover for herself. It didn’t feel like Marissa’s secret to share.

Between holiday proposals and gay discoveries, Marissa hadn’t done a bit of schoolwork over break. She used to be able to get away with it when she was younger, but now she could tell that the work was getting harder. And she just didn’t have the academic stamina for this. Marissa was average at school. All of her friends seemed to have at least one thing they excelled in, and she needed to work three times as hard sometimes to get to their levels.

Feet appeared in her vision. She could feel her freckled face turning a little red at this point from being upside down for so long. Marissa reached out towards the book, which had bounced out of her reach, and she didn’t sit up. “Hey, could you hand that to me? I have a mighty need. Plus I’m too lazy to get up and grab it.”

    • I can see that. - Raja Nazari-Richards, Thu Feb 16 20:05
One semester down, thirteen more to go. Of course, Raja was in no rush to grow up and graduate and have to Be An Adult (he was pretty fond of being a kid, honestly), but it was an interesting... more
      • I was stating the obvious. - Marissa, Sat Feb 18 19:42
“Raja!” Marissa exclaimed happily, placing the voice with the feet. Raja was one of her two Beaters on the Aquila Quidditch team, and she preferred him over Justin. She couldn’t wait for Justin to... more
        • Me too. It's like a game! - Raja, Mon Feb 20 01:57
Based on the use of actress as a title, her availability of cool tips, and Raja’s only experience with a professional athlete lineage, he assumed automatically that Marissa’s mom was probably Famous. ... more
          • I'm good at games! - Marissa, Mon Feb 20 20:20
Raja had a point, and maybe she’d try silly voices next time. She only briefly considered it, though, because she didn’t care enough at this point to think any further. It was hard for her to want to ... more
            • Then this'll be a blast! - Raja, Tue Feb 21 00:00
“Oh, it’s boring.” Raja just about felt his soul leave his body. The suggestion that classes never got any better did little for his academic morale, although he supposed he probably should’ve... more
              • With explosions! - Marissa, Sat Feb 25 17:33
Of course it would be excellent exercise. Marissa already knew that, but she also knew it’d be fun exercise. Marissa tried swimming when she could, even though the activity absolutely destroyed her... more
                • Yessssssss - Raja, Sat Feb 25 18:01
Raja blinked. Justin, terrible? “I don’t think Justin is that bad,” he stated. “He’s kinda pretentious” - Raja had looked that word up once when he overheard somebody else apply it to the seventh... more
                  • That's a lot of excitement - Marissa, Sun Feb 26 17:20
Marissa blinked, taking in what Raja just said. She didn’t realize there were people who didn’t dislike Justin. She had to remember that Raja was just a first year, and hadn’t spent the last few... more
                    • I really like explosions - Raja, Mon Mar 6 02:30
Huh. “That seems dumb,” Raja conceded matter-of-factly. “Drama Club is cool, and Director Tennant is really nice.” The first year had minimal theatre experience, but he was doing the booth stuff for... more
