Not down for the count

Drew decided, apparently, that it was a good idea to fully demonstrate just how awful he was because not only did Drew choose to use an absolutely rude word towards Connor, but he also bludgeoned Connor in the back of the head. Connor was already dark red, a result of the anger he had been feeling towards Drew, but now his eyes started burning and tears sprung to them as he grabbed the back of his head. How could Drew do something like that to him? They had just been having a conversation and Drew had made it horrible and this wasn’t Connor’s fault at all but now Drew had assaulted him and Connor knew that his father would be upset if he told him about any of this. And that was exactly what he was going to do. Clearly Drew would be the recipient of extreme favoritism if Connor told on him to the Cetus Head of House, and even without favoritism it was clear that the counselor was just useless. So the only recourse Connor had now that he had been assailed.

“Why would you DO that?” Connor yelled, spinning angrily on the couch. “I can’t believe you hit me like that!” He balled up his fists as he tried to prevent himself from crying. His head hurt and this wasn’t fair. “I was dumb to think that I could teach you manners, even with normal parents I bet someone like you couldn’t ever learn how to be a good person.” Except for instead of ‘someone like you’, Connor actually said something a little stronger. While the other word he had used to refer to Drew’s ‘parents’ had been one of those words you probably shouldn’t use in front of people but it was probably okay in some circumstances (like the one he had used it in), the word that he had just used for Drew was a word that was definitely not appropriate for public use, and Connor knew it. But it was the worst word he could come up with for someone with Drew’s skin tone, and he didn’t think that it was unwarranted.

He probably shouldn’t have yelled, Connor realized, as he saw a couple of people turn around in their seats around the commons. Huburt Park was one of them, and Connor knew he was probably seconds away from hearing Huburt start raising his voice about how Connor has raised his voice. The third-year braced himself, taking a deep breath and hoping that he could handle both Drew and Huburt at the same time.

Clearly there was something wrong with the first-years.
