If that's so, I'm pretty sure you have to be one of them

Apparently, his moronic owl actually proved to be of some use. Elijah hadn't been sure that it would be, considering it didn't seem to understand basic commands. Blue-green eyes (currently more blue thanks to the setting of the Cetus common room) darted away from the moving mural and over to his best friend as she sat in the bean bag beside him. He let his head loll over to the side so that he could see her completely. He smiled at her, happy to see her after a summer apart.

"Hey yourself, stranger. Glad you got my note." As one of the only other sixth years who could claim being a Cetus, Elijah found that she was the one person he could really talk to about things. That hadn’t always been the case though.

When Elijah Carthy had first met Camilla Baird, he’d been fairly starstruck. As an eleven year old with no knowledge of the magical world, orientation had been wondrous. The opening feast had nearly blown his mind. But nothing was more memorable from that first year for the male than the moment his dreamcatcher had turned a gorgeous shade of blue. Only one other person from the first-year group had gone with him to the Cetus fire. They were the only two Ceti firsties that year and Elijah had taken it upon himself to befriend the person. From what he understood, they’d be doing a lot together.

Boy, had he underestimated exactly what he had been getting himself into. Unlike other students, Camilla hadn’t been bothered by his rambunctious youth. Instead, she always just seemed mistrustful. In his opinion, that hurt more. From first year on, Elijah Carthy had made it his mission to earn the trust that Camilla had been so reluctant to give. He certainly didn’t understand what he’d ever done, besides a few silly mishaps here and there. But eventually, it worked. Somewhere around their third year he could see her start to crack and by their fourth year, the walls had all but shattered.

Now, there was no one Elijah trusted more.

The sixth year shrugged a bit at her inquiry, knowing that this one was less obligational and more Camilla genuinely wanting to know how his summer had been. “Just another summer in the Carthy household,” he said, giving an absentminded wave of his hand. “Jacob is engaged now, finally popped the question to Sarah while they were in London. Mom’s more than thrilled, even with her failing health.” At that the male sighed and shook his head. But still he laughed it off. “I just spent most of it working around the house and such.” It was partially true, even if it wasn’t the whole truth. Elijah wasn’t exactly admitting to everyone that he was searching for his birth parents. It was a rather sensitive topic. “What about yours?”
